3. “The Meharangarh Fort” is built by the Rajput King
Rao Jodha around 1460. In fact, Rao Jodha was
the founder of Jodhpur, previously it was known as
Marwar. The fort is situated 410 feet above the
city and enclosed by imposing thick walls. The fort
has seven gates to enter inside, but the main four
gates are namely as, Jai Pol, Fateh pol both Pol
(gate) are a symbol of victory,
Dedh kamgra pol still bears blemishes
of bombardment by cannonballs and
last fourth gate is Loha Pol which is
immediately left to handprints (sati
marks) where the ranis were immolated
themselves in johar (funeral pyre) of
their husband Maharaja Maan Singh in
1843.

4. The palace also includes Moti Mahal,
Sheesh Mahal, Phool Mahal, Sileh
Khana and Daulat Khana. Now, the
fort is established in the museum it
has the Elephants Howdahs,
Palaquins, Daulat Khana — Treasures of
Mehrangarh Museum, Armoury,
Paintings, and The Turban Gallery. The
museum preserved the traditional
belongings of the Rajputanas.

5. “Umaid Bhawan Palace” is one of the world’s largest private residences. The one part
of the palace is managed by the Taj Hotels and one part has a museum. The named
is given after Maharaja Umaid Singh, grandfather of the present owner, Gaj Singh.
The palace is built to provide the employments to the thousands of citizens during the
period of famine. The palace was built with “dun-coloured” (golden-yellow)
sandstones and marbles. The palace is set in the area of 26 acres land, including 15
acres lavish garden.

6. The museum has exhibits of stuff leopards, a very
large symbolic flag gifted to Maharaja Jaswant Singh
by Queen Victoria, and the vintage cars of royal kings
are also displayed in front of the museum. A
collection of clocks, paintings and a lot things are
exhibited in the museum.

7. The Jaswant Thada is a cenotaph built by Maharaja Sardar Singh in 1899 in memory of
his father Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. The Balsamand Lake is a lake situated 5 km
away from Jodhpur on jodhpur-Mandore Road. It is a famous picnic spot. It is also a
home of birds and animals like peacock and jackals. It has lush green ground and
trees like mango, papaya, plums, etc. The Kaylana Lake is an artificial lake built by
Pratap Singh in 1872. The Ghanta Ghar is also the clock tower of Rajasthan; it was
built by Maharaja Sardar Singh from whom the market takes name.
