The class will divide into 2 groups
In these two groups, you will assign the following roles
2 speakers

A task master
In your groups, you will devise 5 arguments in defense of your topic. You can
use computers or your smartphones to do a little research if needed.
You will also need to come up with 5 counter arguments you can use to
rebut the other team, this means you need to try to anticipate what the
other team will say
When time is up, you will send your speakers forward with your written
arguments and counter arguments
Teams will open, debate and close. The judge will choose a winner.
We will then have class discussion
You will fill out an exit slip about the activity

4. Ground rules
Be respectful! Remember, persuasion is the name
of the game.
Be patient and wait your turn. Speak only on your
turn. Do not interrupt other speakers.
Keep rebuttals short. The goal is to spend most of
your time presenting your argument, not in
rebuttal.
Be mindful of time. Do not “hog the floor.”
5. Teams:
Team Apple will defend the Team Orange will defend the
merits of the apple and explain merits of the orange and
why it is superior to the orange. explain why it is superior to the

about fruit, it’s about using persuasive
language to get the judge on your side!
