You have Type 1 Diabetes if…

…Your fasting blood glucose level is higher than
mg/dL (tested twice)
…Your oral glucose tolerance is measured higher
than 200mg/dL after two hours
…You have a hemoglobin A1c level of 6.5% or
higher
Beta cells that produce
insulin slowly are destroyed
by the body’s immune
system in the blood vessels of
the pancreas which prevents
glucose from getting into
cells because of the low
insulin levels.
Genetics
Genetics have been linked to
the development of Type 1
Diabetes. At least 18 genetic
locations can have an effect
                                 Viruses
on Type 1 Diabetes, however,
There is some research that shows that
low percentages of people
viral infections may be the trigger to the

disease in some individuals who are

fully explain the cause of the
disease.
There is no cure for Type 1 Diabetes, but there are
ways to monitor and control it. Treatment plans
depend on the individual, but there are general
guidelines someone with Diabetes follows to
ensure a healthy lifestyle This includes…
-taking insulin
-following a diabetes meal plan, or paying close
attention to diet
-monitoring blood sugar levels
-getting regular physical activity
 Diabetes is relatively easy to control as long as
    you have medical attention. Minute
    complications are not very common.
 There are possibilities of short term and long
term complications including disorders in the
    kidney, and nerve fibers.
 However, maintaining normal blood sugar
levels and following a doctor’s treatment plan
should help someone with this disorder
    maintain a normal life.
