2. Purpose & Mission
WASBE must build on the goodwill and network it developed through IC2016 to help VSSUT
engage more intensely with industry.
Pure-play IT will continue to be under pressure due to increasing automation and
manufacturing sector will grow with initiatives like Make in India, GST and all.
And, IT being a major mass recruiter at the VSSUT campus, we must develop and engage our
network in manufacturing to boost internship and final placement.
A summit of such a stature would also pave the way for many possibilities for WASBE and our
alumni to engage, nurture & build a win-win relationship with industry and industry bodies.
Pune is home to some of the finest manufacturing companies ranging from auto, auto ancillary,
capital goods, fabrication and related industries.
When we engage VSSUT with the companies and their professionals, the industry bodies and
the whole eco-system, we would open the possibility of long-term relationships.
3. Stakeholders & Engagement
We need to identify large companies & possible recruiters like Cummins, Bharat Forge, Kirloskars,
Thermax, John Deere, M&M, Tata Motors, Bajaj Auto, Volkswagen etc. where a lot of our alumni are
working as well.
We can also think of engaging a related industry body like MIDC, CII or Pune Chamber of Industry to
benefit and showcase it to the participants and sponsors. We may think of calling the state industry
minister to help give it a stamp of approval for the event and WASBE.
The speakers should be a mixture of functional heads and human resource heads to give it a
heterogeneous feel and serve our purpose for VSSUT.
We can identify related professionals from industries there to be the audience for a small fee where they
get to learn many aspects from industry veterans themselves.
The audience would also consist of our alumni. We may invite all our WASBE LMs for free and would
encourage some more alumni to be LM in the process.
We must meet and explain the benefits of such a summit to the various stakeholders in the next one
month or so.
4. Sessions & Events
We can organise four sessions of one and a half hour each with 5/6 panelists with a Chairman
and a Keynote Speaker each.
The topics can vary from getting the right skilled people to the challenges of cost, quality,
infrastructure, capital or a new tax reform like GST.
The movie on VSSUT to be played twice during the changeover of Session 1 & 2 and Session 3 &
4.
We now have a host of clubs and activities at VSSUT to be showcased at such an event. It will
be a huge boost and even possibilities both for the student participants and the guests.
We can think of engaging media this time owing to the touch of the various stakeholders of
state industry department and also the presence of large industries.
This should also be be an event to engage with the state for some possible projects which our
alumni would like to contribute on behalf of WASBE.
5. Cost & Revenue
The venue should be a five star hotel, conveniently located such as Holiday Inn, Courtyard Marriott
or The Orchid which are adjacent to the National Highway.
Sponsorship of some willing participating companies, sponsorship from companies founded by
alumni, participating fee of audience are the three major revenues.
Cost would include the lunch per person and that of the various event material at the venue. We
may incur some more for logistics and related stuff as well.
The Management Team can sit and deliberate on the associated cost and we have alumni and some
companies founded by them to support an event of this magnitude.
We must explain the benefits of such an event to the active alumni who want to do their bit for the
alma mater which we will keep on doing at various parts of the country which was started as IC2016
to take VSSUT pan India. They can even contribute on a personal level.
Last but not the least, WASBE must explain the benefits of such an event to VSSUT and pitch for a
good amount to help further its cause.
6. Way Forward
We may have been late by one month to start planning for the event. But, getting some serious
thoughts, plans and solid action on the ground would help us pick up the momentum.
Let’s sit down asap, get on the event activities on the paper, a willing person to lead from the front
and a terrific team to back him/her up.
Let's start engaging with the companies, the industry bodies, the possible alumni sponsors through
their own or their companies.
We must have a small team for each minute activities. 90 days is a good time to explain and engage
the various stakeholders of this event.
We met on Sep 11th, 2016 at Chembur Gymkhana, had a serious brainstorm and conducted an
Industry Conclave some 60 days later on Oct 15th with 24 companies on board and an affair to
remember. This time it is 90 days, we haven’t developed any fatigue even after kms of discussion
on wap, have reasons and miles to go and we have some 250 odd people to cheer and support us
globally. We can pull off a magnificent show some 90 days from now. WASBE is a powerhouse of
talent, unexplored and waiting to arrive.
