2. Thermosetting
• Charcteristics:
• They retain strength and shape even when
heated
produce permanent components
solid shapes

3. • Properties:
• Exposies exhibit elasticity
chemical resistance
• Phenolics fairy simple to mold
but
brittle
strong and hard
relatively easy to
cure

4. Aplications:
It can be aplied for a/an electonic chip
fibre reinforced composite
polimeric coating
spectacle lenses
dental fillings

5. Thermoplastics
• Characteristics:
• It’s a type of plastic made from polymer resins
when heated homogenized liquid becomes
when cooled hard

6. • Properties:
• Are defined as; polymers that can be melted for different
uses.
Have the simplest molecular structure with
chemical independent macromolecules
• By heating are softened
or melted shaped welded
and solidified when cooled

7. • Aplications:
• For example Polycarbonate:
-compact discs -food storage containers
-drinking bottles -eyeglass lenses
Polyethylene
-shampoo bottles
-plastic grocery bags

8. Elastomers
• Characteristics:
• They have high elongation
flexibility
breaking against
• Clasified into:
• Thermoset Elastomers- not melt when heated.
• Thermoplastic Elastomers- they melt when
heated.

9. Elastomers part 2
• Properties:
• Cannot melt, before it pass gaseous
state
• Swell in presence certain solvents
• Are generally insoluble
• Are flexible and elastic
• Lower resistance than thermoplastic
materials

10. Elastomers part 3
• Aplications:
• It can be used for -Natural rubber; used to make shoe heels
-Polybutadiene; used on the wheels
-Neoprene; used to make wetsuits
-Silicone; used to make medical prostheses, lubricants,etc
