Boy's basketball dream
1. Film Idea 1
Synopsis- This filmidea is about a boy who gets declined by his high school Basketball team
on his way to the NBA. It’s a sport genre and would show a boy go through rejection and
negativity to eventually get to the top and where he wants to be in his life. He questions
himself and his choices as a basketball player when his friends and family tell him it’s not a
wise choice to go for such an unlikely career.
Ideas- For locations we could use the inside basketball gym for the big matches and the
outside basketball court for practice when he gets declined and has to go through a training
montage in order to show his skills improving. To do this we would record him at first
missing shots and missing lay ups to eventually making all of his shots and lay ups
consecutively. This shows progression and dedication to what he wants to do for the rest of
his life. For a coach we could use either one of us or even get a P.E teacher to take part in
our movie.
Film story- The film would start with a Basketball match with a voice over talking about how
I have wanted to become a professional Basketball player my entire life and how it is my
dream to be in the hall of fame. The match would be slightly in slow motion in the
background. The ball gets passed to me and I shoot with no time left on the clock, the
buzzer sounds as the screen goes black simultaneously. It comes back up showing me by
myself in a crap court with a flat ball. The voice over says “but that’s just a dream, this is my
real life.” Music plays in the background as the opening titles appear on screen. It cuts to me
in class looking outside at the empty Basketball court with a ball in the middle. Fades to
black and says “2 weeks later” on screen, it’s the high school basketball team try outs and
I’m there with a bunch of contenders trying out. The try outs contain a montage of different
Basketball drills such as scrimmages, shooting, passing and defending. After the montage
the coach is talking to all the contenders lined up, he picks the final 5 to be on the team and
I’m not one of them. The five players that get picked are happy whereas everyone else is
disappointed. I confront the coach and ask why I didn’t get selected even though I was one
of the best here. He says that Basketball isn’t about me and that it’s a team sport not a one
man show. I try to argue but he cuts me off and says “today wasn’t your day, doesn’t mean
you should give up. Everyone fails sometimes, today is one of your failures, prove me wrong
next year, get on the team and win us a championship.” The screen fades to black and says
“throughout the year.” There is a training montage of various different drills and exercises
to improve my Basketball skills, I begin at failing all of the drills but as it goes on I start
getting better and better and start showing improvement. There is a pan around the
Basketball court and on the screen it says “try-outs.” Another montage of all the same drills
we saw last time happen, this time I do the best at all the drills and exercises. I am confident
in the line-up as coach picks the 5 players to be a part of the team. Four get picked as it
turns to slow motion, the final name gets said and I am ecstatic as I hear my name get
called. The screen fades to black and we are in a brand new court, there is a pan around
showing all the new facilities and equipment and it says “championship finals” on screen.
Coach gives a pep talk before the game and it tips off. There is a montage of the match and
comes back to real time at the end. There is a close up of the timer as it reads 30 seconds
2. left with the opposing team winning 74-68. I make a shot, 74-71. I get an assist and we are
down by one point. There is a close up on the score and timer which shows 74-73 with 10
seconds left as I walk up the court ready to try and win the game. The screen splits in half
and on one side it shows me attempting the game winning shot and on the other it shows
the clock. 3, 2, 1 and the buzzer sounds as the screen goes black. The screen comes back up
to show my face with a shocked expression, the shot missed and we lost in the finals. The
other team is celebrating in the background out of focus as I stand still in focus. After the
game in the locker room all the team’s morale is low and coach comes in smiling. He comes
to me and says “Everyone fails sometimes, today is one of your failures.” I take a second but
eventually look at him and smile and say “thanks Coach.” The screen fades to black and the
end credits roll.
