•Joined the Navy for two years
of National service.
•Married Jane Oriel in 1950.
•Worked for BBC from 1952.
•Studied Social anthropology
at London school of
Economics.
•Rejoined BBC in senior
management in 1965
•Honoured as CBE (
Commander of the British
Empire) in 1974.
•Knighted in 1985.
•Lost wife in 1997.

7. David joined BBC in 1952 and then studied Social Anthropology.
He rejoined BBC in 1965 as Controller of non-fiction
entertainment and in 1969 was prompted to Director.
