2. Rip was married and his wife was always
complaining about his not being
responsible of the family.
He had a field to grow crops but he
didn’t like to work on the field.
It was the dirtiest field and it wasn’t well
kept either.
Rip liked to sit at café and chat with
people. He didn’t like to work at all.
3. One day he was fed up with his wife’s nagging
and complaints . He wanted to get away from
it all and took his rifle and went up to the
mountain near the village .
He walked through the forest and up the
mountain . It was peaceful and very quiet.
He was happy here.
There was no body around, making fun of
him.
4. When Rip got to the top of the
mountain he found a nice tree
and sat down at the foot of
the tree. He was tired of
climbing and going up the
mountain.
He wanted to take a rest by
the tree so he sat by the tree
and soon he fell asleep.
6. When he woke up he thought
he slept for just a few hours
but in fact thirty years have
past.
His rifle was still next to him
on the ground by the tree, but
it had been completely rusted.
7. He noticed his beard had grown and
became white. He touched his hair and
saw his hair also had become all white and
long.
He stood up slowly and took his rifle from
the ground. His clothes had been worn
out.
9. As he got closer to his village he
noticed new tombstones in the
graveyard. The people he knew had
died while he was up the
mountain, and some new houses had
been built.
10. As he came to the
center of the village
no body recognized
him, because
nobody had seen
him for 30 years and
most of his friends
had died or moved
away from this
village.
In addition he
looked quite
different. His hair
was much longer
and very dirty. His
beard had grown
more than a meter
long.
11. In the village he found his house but
there was no body inside. It had
become worn out.
His wife was not in. His wife had
died already.
12. He lucky found his daughter, who was now an
adult and had a family.
Rip Van Winkle lived happily with her daughter’s
family for the rest of his life.
