3. Crow’s Nest is a small hotel in Gloucester, which hosts the young fishermen. Ethel Shatford who works in Crow’s Nest, comes from a fishermen family. Ethel has six children, and, Bobby, her son, went to swordfishing, like him and his family. Gloucester is a fishing town. Most of the people who live in the port have jobs conected with fishing. The fishermen of Gloucester were caught in a storm at the end of October 1991. They would travel, but before the trip, the captain Billy Tyne had had a lot of problems with Andrea Gail (the swordfishing boat). There were some fishermen that didn’t want to travel with Andrea Gail because the Ocean was very dangerous. Adam Randall, a fisherman who would go in Andrea Gail, didn’t go because he had had a bad feeling before the trip.
4. Sully and Murph were fishermen who belonged to Andrea Gail’s crew. They had to do the shopping for the travel. They bought a lot of ice (because the ice keep the fish fresh). After that, the Andrea Gail’s fishermen were ready to the trip. But Ethel had a bad feeling like Adam about Andrea Gail’s journey. In the ocean, Andrea Gail and the Hannah Boden (another swordfishing boat) often helped each other. After two days, Andrea Gail and Hannah Boden separeted and the fishermen said goodbye to each other. Andre Gail went to the north, in direction of the Flemish Cap, which is a dangeours area.
5. The boats which were in sea received a fax from the Canadian Weather Service, and the fax said that the capitain had to decide what was the best decision to do for the group. Billy, who was an excellent captain, knew that Andra Gail was in danger but he didn’t tell to Andrea Gail’s members. There were some satellites pictures that showed the cold air which was moving to the area where Andra Gail was located. The last Andrea Gail’s contact with Canadian Weather Service was about 6 p.m. on Monday, October 28th. After this contact, Billy didn’t call anymore.
6. On Tuesday, October 29th evening, there was na acident in the sea (with others swordfishing boats): the Hurricane Grace colided with the Sable Island. There was a big problem, the life raft dissappeared, the fishermen couldn’t get off the boat! The Satori`s radio was stole working. The U.S. Coast Guard received the message of Satori and sent one Falcon jet plane out to find the Satori and The Coast Guard also sent a powerful ship, the Tamaroa. The Tamaroa was called to another rescue that night. There were five National Guardsmen on board, but Rick Smith wasn’t there. To save Rick the four Guardsmen had to swim to Tamaroa, and the fishermen ahd to put a net over the side of the swordfishing.
7. The storm destroyed the boats and the fishermen needed to repair the them. Andrea Gail was now disappeared. Nobody had received news from Andra Gail. On Wednesday, October 30th, the Coast Guard called all the boats near the Sable Island on the radio and asked them to try and get some contact with the Andrea Gail. No One succeeded. Nobody can ever know what happened to the Andrea Gail. the Coast Guard stopped the search for the Andrea Gail on November 8th.
