HYVINKÄÄ RAILWAYSTATION WHERE THE HOST
FAMILIES WERE ALREADY WAITING FOR THEM
• THE GUESTS ARRIVED AT THE FAMILIES AND THEY SPENT THE REST
OF THE DAY WITH THEIR FAMILIES
MONDAY 9.10.
• MEETING AT THE SCHOOL AND PARTICIPATING LESSONS
• VISITING THE TOWN HALL WHERE MAYOR JYRKI MATTILA GAVE A PRESENTATION
OF HYVINKÄÄ
• HYVINKÄÄ SIGHTSEEING BY FOOT
• IN THE EVENING TEACHERS HAD A DINNER IN KYTÄJÄ GOLF CLUB
TUESDAY 10.10.
ON TUESDAY MORNING WE TOOK THE BUS TO HIKIÄ
TO SEE THE UNDERGROUND WATER POWER PLANT. WE
WENT DOWN AN ABOUT 80 M ELEVATOR SHAFT 5
PERSONS AT A TIME, SINCE THE ELEVATOR WAS A VERY
TIGHT FIT.
AFTER TAKING A LOOK AT ALL OF THE LOUD PIPES
AND PUMPS, WE STARTED TO TREK OUR WAY UP THE
LONG TUNNEL LEADING UP TO THE GROUND LEVEL.
ARTO KALLIO, WHO IS THE GENERAL MANAGER OF THE
WATER COMPANY HOSTED US DURING THE VISIT.
TUESDAY; NÄSINNEULA
• AFTER VISITING THE POWER PLANT THE BUS TOOK US BACK
TO SCHOOL AND WE HAD LUNCH AT SCHOOL AND STARTED
TO MAKE OUR WAY TOWARDS TAMPERE. OUR FIRST
DESTINATION WAS NÄSINNEULA-TOWER. THE SIGHT
SEEING TOWER STANDS 168 M TALL AND IS ONE OF THE
MOST FAMOUS ATTRACTIONS IN TAMPERE.
• AFTER A MEATBALL DINNER AT NÄSINNEULA WE WERE
DRIVEN TO THE CITY CENTER AND DROPPED OFF
AT FRENCKEL’S SQUARE AND GIVEN A TOUR ALONG THE
TAMMERKOSKI-STREAM. AFTER WHICH EVERYONE WAS
GIVEN FREE TIME TO EXPLORE THE CITY.
AROUND 9 PM WE WERE BACK AT HYVINKÄÄ.
WEDNESDAY 11.10.
• IN THE MORNING WE CAME TO SCHOOL AT 8.50 AM. WE
WERE WORKING IN GROUPS: OTHERS WERE PREPARING THE
RESULTS OF THE QUESTIONARY ABOUT TOURISM, WHILE THE
OTHERS WERE WORKING IN THE FUTURE ENERGY
WORKSHOP.
• AFTER LUNCH WE HAD SOME SPARE TIME BEFORE WE TOOK
THE TRAIN TO HELSINKI.
• IN HELSINKI, WE WALKED FROM THE RAILWAY STATION TO
THE FINNISH DESIGN MUSEUM. THERE WE GOT TO SEE SOME
OF OUR GREATEST NATIONAL DESIGN WORKS AND LEARNED
ABOUT THE FAMOUS FINNISH DESIGNERS. AFTER THAT WE
WENT THROUGH HELSINKI CITY CENTRE TO SENAATINTORI
MARKETPLACE. FROM THERE ON WE HAD SOME FREE TIME IN
HELSINKI. AROUND 7 PM WE LEFT HELSINKI AND ARRIVED AT
HYVINKÄÄ 8 PM.
THURSDAY 12.10.
• ON THURSDAY MORNING WE STARTED WITH A
WORKSHOP IN WHICH WE DID SOME WATER HEAT
CAPACITY MEASUREMENTS
• WE WORKED IN GROUPS AND OUR CHEMISTRY TEACHER
SUVI ASPHOLM LEADED THE WORK
• WE DISCOVERED THAT WATER HAS A REALLY HIGH
SPECIFIC HEAT CAPACITY
• NEXT WE CONTINUED OUR FUTURE ENERGY PROJECT
• AFTER LUNCH WE TOOK A BUS TO HAUKILAMPI WHERE
WE HAD SOME LEISURE ACTIVITIES LIKE SWIMMING AND
SAUNA, GAMES AND FREE TIME WITH FRIENDS AND
DINNER
