Juan Ponce de Leon was a Spanish explorer born in 1460 in Palencia, Spain. He led an expedition in 1513 to Florida in search of the legendary Fountain of Youth but was unsuccessful in finding it. Ponce de Leon explored the southeastern United States and claimed Florida for Spain, though he did not discover the Fountain of Youth he sought.
