2. A winter day dawned to two degrees below zero. At twelve o'clock, the
temperature had risen 9 degrees, and 3 more degrees till five o'clock. From five
to midnight decreased by 5 degrees, and from midnight to dawn decreased by 6
more degrees. At what temperature did the second day dawn?
3. A diver is on the base platform at 8 m above sea level and performs these
displacements:
a) Dives 25 meters to leave material.
b) Dives 12 meters more to make a welding.
c) Rises 8 meters to repair a pipe.
d) Finally, he goes back to the platform.
How many meters has he rises on his last displacement?

4. The highest elevation in North America is Mt. McKinley, which is 20,320 feet
above sea level. The lowest elevation is Death Valley, which is 282 feet below
sea level. What is the difference between these two elevations?
5. Find the balance in these bank accounts after the transactions shown:
a) Opening balance £288. Deposits of £56 and £84, followed by withdrawals of
£27 and £230.
b) Opening balance is -£480. Deposit of £17, followed by a withdrawal of £118.
6. Alexander the Great was born in 356 BC and died in 323 BC. For how many years
did he live? How many years ago did he die?

falls, it drifts 3 m away from the jetty, then 5 m towards it, then 6 m away from
it. What is the boat’s position now?
9. The temperatures of cities A, B, C, D, E and F were recorded at 12 noon on a
certain day last year.
a) What was the temperature of each of the cities?
b) How many °C is city D warmer than city:

c) How many °C is city C cooler than city:

d) What is the difference in temperature between:
