Jesus describes the church in Laodicea as lukewarm, neither hot nor cold. The church thinks it is rich and in need of nothing, but Jesus says they are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. He counsels them to buy from him gold refined by fire, white garments to cover their shame, and salve to anoint their eyes so they can see. If the church repents and turns back to Jesus, he will grant them the right to sit with him on his throne.
