“Gaelic”, “Irish”, “Welsh”, “Scottish”, and “Breton”
Describe and discuss the course texts in their historical and
cultural contexts
Identify, describe, and compare the characteristics of several
medieval Celtic texts
Identify key literary elements and use them to interpret and
analyze course texts
Discuss with some detail issues with the term “Celtic” and be
able to differentiate between the various literatures for their
particular cultural resonances beyond merely “Celtic”
Locate and describe “Celtic” subjects and motifs in everyday
life
Describe, discuss, and analyze the ways in which “Celtic”
motifs are appropriated for a variety of purposes in modern
society
