2. The markets opened on a flat to negative note and had a volatile session
for some time. By noon the markets gained strength and finally closed in
green. The gains were particularly seen in midcap and smallcap stocks.
On the sectoral front, there was buying in consumer durable, power,
capital goods, realty and banking while minor selling was seen in oil,
metal and healthcare. Aviation stocks came down after PSU oil marketing
companies hiked jet fuel price by about 3%.
Asian markets were trading with minor gains this morning on the back of
biggest quarterly gains since 2010 as oil advanced. US markets gained on
Friday as the personal spending rose 0.8% against 0.4% previously.
European markets were trading mixed today.
