2. The markets opened on a flat note and moved sideways to negative. In the
early afternoon session the markets recovered a bit but was short lived and
turned around to move deep into red. The markets finally came to a close
near the low of the day.
The breadth of the market was weak with 1676 shares declining and 1035
shares on the rise. Global markets too witnessed selloff in the second part of
the day which intensified the slide in the domestic markets. India's inflation
moved up to 7.5% in May driven by higher food prices.
There was selling pressure in realty, banking, capital goods, power and auto
while minor gains were made in IT and technology. Fertilizer stocks which
gained in the morning later gave up their gains as the govt deferred the
Fertilizer Ministry’s proposal to hike the retail prices of urea by 10% for 2012-
13 fiscal.
