Aims:
Aim of the course:
This course aims to familiarize first year students with basic principles of Grammar in
English language. Three essential processes namely, Sentence building, grammar forms and
paragraph writing skills will be considered with respect to relevant theory, and practice.
The course will enable students to develop, improve, adapt and extend their grammar and
writings skills in English contexts. A continuous conversation will be held throughout the
course focusing on these questions:
1. What is Grammar tenses
2. How do Grammar tenses affect student learning for all past-present and future
forms
3. What is the role of needs foreign language development?
4. How can effective structure sentences be designed and implemented?

Learning Outcomes:
After successfully completion of the course students should be able to demonstrate:
- Students (Ss) will expand their basic understanding of form, meaning, and use in longer
discourse settings including academic discourse
- Ss will begin to integrate form, meaning and use in academic discourse settings.
- Ss will demonstrate an understanding of more complex grammatical structures in
conversations and discussions. In addition, students will begin to initiate and sustain
conversations and discussions.
- Ss will begin to demonstrate more consistent and appropriate language use in extended
conversations and discussions.
- Ss will practice the grammar needed to write various types of writing including journals,
and personal paragraphs.
- Ss Students will demonstrate an understanding of a grammar structure by talking about it
in pair and group work, and class discussions.
- Ss Students will write paragraphs which use targeted grammar structures.
Students will write a variety of sentence types.
