Hi everyone,
As I looked at my thesis and organization this week, I thought back to several things
brought up in the readings. The reading “Essay Structure” mentioned that essays
generally flow from general to specific or specific to general. My essay seems to fit the
general to specific best since it begins with ways in which students are bullied as a whole
then examines bullying targeting special needs students as well as a specific way to
address this problem.
In addition, I liked the graphic organizer options. I’ve always been a scratch outliner,
but the graphic organizers, especially the first one, forced me to think in complete ideas.
They also helped me make sure I included all the information I need to, such as the
thesis, the target audience, the problem, the solution, and counter arguments. I plan to
use the first organizer.
I made some changes to my thesis based on the feedback I received in units 5 and 6, too.
Thesis: Despite assertions that bullying is just kids being kids, the behavior actually
comes from not understanding differences, disabilities, and specialness – a problem
parents, educators, and others who work with children can use fiction to solve.

Objectives: Students will identify forms of power and communication at work (knowledge). They will also develop strategies to overcome abusive forms of power (skills). They will reflect on their own uses of power in the classroom (dispositions). Students will appreciate the relationship between leadership styles, power and the culture of schools.
Key Concepts: theories of leadership as style (authoritarian, democratic, laissez-faire, contingency, person and task-oriented); as trait; as orientation (task vs. people), as contingency, transformational or charismatic, and as facilitation. Discussion: Speaking Up/Keeping Quiet. Balancing participation in groups can involve stifling some members and urging others to speak up when they would prefer to be silent. Explore the ethical justification for these actions by answering the following questions. 1.) Are there any circumstances when it is legitimate to place quiet group members in the position of speaking up when they would prefer to remain silent? When does it become reasonable to urge group members to participate? Do discouraging talkative members ever violate the principles of free speech, or the group norms of respect and inclusiveness or tolerance? When thinking of purchasing and buying, one may think that the terms mean the same thing. Purchasing, however, is significantly different from buying in that the process refers to buying specific goods or services that will be used by the organization (Benton, 2014). Conversely, buying refers to “procuring items for resale” (Benton, 2014, p. 141). The typical steps in the purchasing cycle are as followed:
1. Identifying the need
2. Specify how much and when the product is needed by
3. Write the purchase order
4. Obtain financial approval
5. Research suppliers
6. Chose the supplier
7. Establish price and terms
8. Place the order
9. Receive the order
10. Approve and pay
11. Update inventory

Last year, I was involved in an RFP process to determine a new vendor for our relocation program. Each of the steps listed above were apparent throughout the process. The need for the new vendor came from declining service from our then current vendor. We determined that we wanted the new vendor to start providing service in the first quarter of 2020. Relocation vendors were researched and after presentations, a new vendor was identified. The new vendor then supplied a contract with SLA’s and pricing. Once the contract was approved, the vendor started providing the services.
Through this process, I worked with a procurement manager. She used software called Scout to research vendors, initiate the RFP, and collect responses. The software was helpful in making the process easier and more efficient.

Benton (2014) stated, "A typical purchasing department is responsible for the acquisition of a broad range of materials and supplies. Depending on the sales volume, the number of employees, and the functional sophistication, the purchasing activities can be either complex or simple." (P.139)
The steps in the conventional purchasing cycle are as follows:

· Specifying the exact need
· Determine Source Options
· Investigating applicable pricing and terms
· Choose the supplier
· Create Purchase Order/ Requisition and send for approval
· Place Order
· Receive and Document the order
· Approve Invoices and Pay
· Verify that PO has been closed in system used (Record Maintenance)
The main difference between buying and purchasing is that buying is considered more of an informal general term. It is most commonly related to everyday goods, services, and commodities. Purchasing is much more formal and process-driven. It is often used to refer to larger .
