5. Post Pandemic World – Future of Construction
“Global construction output in 2020 was US$10.7 trillion1 and we
expect this to grow by 42% or US$4.5 trillion between 2020 and 2030 to
reach US$15.2 trillion. The global construction industry is set to be a
global engine for economic growth and recovery from COVID-19.
Asia-Pacific will account for US$2.5 trillion of growth in construction
output between 2020 and 2030, up by over 50% to become a US$7.4
trillion market by 2030”

Digitalized construction creates cyber
exposures such as follow:
– Malicious attempts to gain access to
sensitive data,
– Disruption of project site control and
associated theft,
– supply chain disruption
– Potential corruption of project
design data,
resulting in delays and ultimately
reputational risk for parties involved.

Agenda
11. PI insurance protect your company from
Claims for;
– Financial loss of customer
– Arising out of any act, error or
omission
– Committed by an employee
– In the course of providing professional
advices or services to clients
What is PI Insurance?
12. – The Insured (Company)
– Directors & Officers
– All employees
– Consultants and contracts/sub-
contractors
– JV Partners
Who is Insured?
14. Protect against mistakes they may make in
providing services.
Claims can be brought in both contract and
tort and therefore the lack of contractual
obligations does not restrict the liability owed
by professionals to their clients.
Provide essential financial protection to
Insured’s balance sheet.
Why Professional Firms need PI?
15. The contractor's PI limit is shared by all projects and therefore, its limit could
be eroded by one project leaving other projects uninsured.
Insurers may amend terms at renewal depending upon various non-
controllable factors and therefore, there is no guarantee that renewal terms
will meet the requirements of the contract in case of annual PI.
Any claim during policy period may dampen renewal terms and insurers
may not renew the policy.
Inconsistency in insurance program exist in case of a joint venture for the
project as their individual insurance policies ought to be different. Higher
claims dispute.
Project PI - Project Owner’s Concern with Annual PI
Cover?
16. Due to the issues in annual PI cover,
project owners require designing
and construction contractors to
obtain single PI insurance for a
specific period following completion
of the project.
Solution: Single Project PI Cover
17. Single policy for coverage more than 10 years
A dedicated limit of indemnity for the covered project.
The coverage can be designed to provide indemnity
for all professional parties associated with a project
under the one policy.
This could include the head contractor and its sub
contractors and sub consultants
This is a non-cancellable policy that provides a
robust, efficient and cost-effective solution.
This enable contractors to meet contract
requirements from their principals.
Solution: Single Project PI Cover

Territorial Limits are the geographical area
where the policy will cover the policyholder
undertaking work. If an act, error or omission
occurs outside the specified territorial limit then
there is no cover.
Jurisdictional Limits are where and under which
Court of Law a claim may be heard, where a
Jurisdictional Limit is Mauritius, the claim must
be brought in the country’s courts for policy to
