Start By:
a. Remove the final drive and the travel motor.
NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.
Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool
Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on
Cat products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

NOTICE
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.
Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

1. Remove bolts (1) that hold sprocket (2) to the final drive. Use two persons to remove the
sprocket from the final drive. The weight of sprocket (2) is approximately 23 kg (50 lb).
NOTICE
Failure to follow the recommended procedure or the specified tooling
that is required for the procedure could result in damage to
components.
To avoid component damage, follow the recommended procedure
using the recommended tools.
2. Put an alignment mark across the section of the travel motor and the final drive for assembly
purposes. The parts must be reinstalled in the original locations of the parts.

3. Remove plugs (3), clip (4), and cover (5).
4. Remove thrust plate (6) and plate (7).
5. Remove planet gears (8).

6. Remove bearing (11) and race (10) from planet gear (9). Repeat for the remaining planet
gears.
7. Remove sun gear (12). Remove carrier (13).
8. Remove sun gear (14).

9. Use a suitable punch to rotate plate (16). This action will loosen screw (15). Remove screw
(15) and plate (16). Repeat for the remaining screws and plates.
10. Remove planet gear (17).
11. Remove bearing (18), race (19), and thrust washer (20) from planet gear (17). Repeat for the
remaining planet gears.

Carrier assembly (22)

12. Remove bolts (21). Use Tooling (A) to remove locknut (23).

13. Remove O-ring seal (24). Remove housing (25) from carrier assembly (22).
14. Remove plug (26).
Note: There is a count of 104 balls (27) in housing (25).
15. Remove balls (27) from housing (25).

Note: The Duo-Cone seal is indicated by the arrow, but not shown.
16. Remove bearing assembly (28). Remove the Duo-Cone seal (not shown).
17. Remove Duo-Cone seal (29).
Personal injury can result from parts and/or covers under spring
pressure.
Spring force will be released when covers are removed.
Be prepared to hold spring loaded covers as the bolts are loosened.
18. Remove the plugs of crossover relief valves (30).

Note: Spool (33) is shared by both sides of the crossover relief vale.
19. Remove spring (31), stop (32), and spool (33) from one side. Remove spring (31) and stop
(32) from the other side.
20. Remove bolts (34) and housing (35).
21. Remove port plate (36), bearing (37), and springs (38).

Improper assembly of parts that are spring loaded can cause bodily
injury.
To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure
and wear protective equipment.
23. Remove valve (42), spring (41), and O-ring seal (40) from plug (39).

25. Repeat Step 23.
26. Remove O-ring seals (44) and (47) from the bolt holes. Remove O-ring seal (45). Remove
piston (46).

27. Remove seals (48) and O-rings seals (49) from piston assembly (46).
Note: Make note of the order of plates (51) and frictions plates (50) for assembly purposes.
28. Remove plates (51) and friction plates (50).

29. Remove barrel assembly (52).
30. Remove piston assembly (53).
31. Remove shaft (55), cone (54), and springs (56) from barrel assembly (52).

32. Remove plate (57).

33. Remove piston (58), ball bearings (60), and bearing (59). Remove spring (61) from piston
(58).
34. Remove main shaft seal (62).

1. Apply Tooling (C) to the lip portion of main shaft seal (62). Install main shaft seal (62).
