Start By:
A. Remove the hood. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly Manual, "Hood - Remove and
Install".
NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.
Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop
Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain
fluids on Caterpillar products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

NOTICE
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.
Contamination of the hydraulic system with foreign material will
reduce the service life of the hydraulic system components.
To prevent contaminants from entering the hydraulic system, always
plug or cap the lines, fittings, or hoses as they are disconnected. Cover
any disassembled components and clean them properly before
assembly.
Clean the hydraulic system properly after any major component
exchange or especially after a component failure, to remove any
contamination.
Personal injury can result from hot coolant, steam and alkali.
At operating temperature, engine coolant is hot and under pressure.
The radiator and all lines to heaters or the engine contain hot coolant or
steam. Any contact can cause severe burns.
Remove cooling system pressure cap slowly to relieve pressure only
when engine is stopped and cooling system pressure cap is cool enough
to touch with your bare hand.
Do not attempt to tighten hose connections when the coolant is hot, the
hose can come off causing burns.
Cooling System Coolant Additive contains alkali. Avoid contact with
skin and eyes.
Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires and on all tubes for
installation purposes. Plug all lines, all hoses and all tubes. This will help to prevent fluid loss and
this will help to keep contaminants from entering the system.
1. Release the pressure in the cooling system by slowly loosening the filler cap on the radiator.
2. Drain the coolant from the radiator. The capacity of the cooling system is 37 L (10 US gal).
3. Remove the lower access panel from the left side of the engine. Remove the lower access
panel from the right side of the engine.

4. Place tool (A) and place the cribbing under the guard (1) .
5. Remove bolts (2) and guard (1) from the machine. The weight of the guard is 50 kg (110
lb).

6. Remove bolts (5) and remove plates (6) .
7. Remove bolts (3) and remove fan guard assemblies (4) from the radiator assembly.
8. Loosen hose clamps (7) and remove tube assembly (8) from the machine.
Personal injury can result from contact with refrigerant.
Contact with refrigerant can cause frost bite. Keep face and hands away
to help prevent injury.
Protective goggles must always be worn when refrigerant lines are
opened, even if the gauges indicate the system is empty of refrigerant.
Always use precaution when a fitting is removed. Slowly loosen the
fitting. If the system is still under pressure, release it slowly in a well
ventilated area.
Personal injury or death can result from inhaling refrigerant through a
lit cigarette.
Inhaling air conditioner refrigerant gas through a lit cigarette or other
smoking method or inhaling fumes released from a flame contacting air
conditioner refrigerant gas, can cause bodily harm or death.
Do not smoke when servicing air conditioners or wherever refrigerant
gas may be present.
Use a certified recovery and recycling cart to properly remove the
refrigerant from the air conditioning system.

9. Remove bolts (10) and remove guard assembly (11) from the radiator assembly.
10. Disconnect the air conditioner hoses (12) .
11. Disconnect hose assembly (13) from the radiator assembly.

12. Disconnect hose assembly (14) from the radiator assembly.
13. Loosen hose clamps (15), and (18), and remove tube assembly (17) from the engine.
14. Disconnect electrical connector (16) .
15. Remove bolts (19) and open the guard assembly.

16. Remove bolts (20) and (21) from both sides of the radiator assembly.
17. Install tool (B) on the radiator assembly. Attach a hoist and a suitable lifting device for
support. Remove two bolts (23) (hidden) and remove radiator (22) from the machine. The
weight of the radiator is 341 kg (752 lb).

1. Attach tool (B). Attach the hoist and attach a suitable lifting device to radiator assembly
(22). Position the radiator assembly and install bolts (23) (hidden). The weight of the
radiator is 341 kg (752 lb).

2. Install bolts (21) and (20) to both sides of the radiator assembly.
3. Close the guard assembly and install bolts (19) .

4. Connect electrical connector (16) .
5. Install tube assembly (17) to the engine and tighten hose clamps (18) and (15) .
6. Connect hose assembly (14) to the radiator assembly.
7. Connect hose assembly (13) to the radiator assembly.

8. Connect the air conditioner hoses (12) .
Note: Refer to Air Conditioning and Heating Service Manual, SENR5664, "Complete
Charging of the System".
9. Install guard assembly (11) and bolts (10) on the radiator assembly.
10. Install tube assembly (8) and tighten hose clamps (7) and (9) .

11. Install fan guard assemblies (4) and bolts (3) .
12. Install Plates (6) and bolts (5) .

13. Use Tool (A) and cribbing to position guard (1). Install bolts (2) to secure guard (1) to the
bottom of the machine. The weight of the guard is 50 kg (110 lb).
14. Install the lower access panels on the right and left sides of the engine.
15. Fill the radiator with coolant.
Note: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7001, "Cooling System" for the
correct filling procedure.
End By: Install the hood. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hood - Remove and Install".

Removal Procedure
Start By:
A. Remove the hood. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hood - Remove and Install".
1. Remove the lower access panel that is located below the left side of the engine. Remove the
lower access panel that is located below the right side engine.

2. Remove bolts (3) and remove plates (4) from the fan guard assemblies.
3. Remove bolts (1) and remove fan guard assemblies (2) .
NOTICE
Care should be taken when removing fan (5) not to damage the
radiator by allowing the blades of the fan (5) to contact with the
radiator core.
4. Remove bolts (6) and remove fan (5) .

NOTICE
Care should be taken when installing fan (5) not to damage the
radiator by allowing the blades of the fan (5) to contact with the
radiator core.
1. Install fan (5) and install bolts (6) .
2. Install fan guard assemblies (2) and install bolts (1) .
3. Install plates (4) and install bolts (3) .
4. Install the lower access panel that is located below the left side of the engine. Install the
lower access panel that is located below the right side of the engine.
End By: Install the hood. See Disassembly and Assembly, "Hood - Remove and Install".

Start By:
A. Remove the fan. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fan - Remove and Install".
1. Remove the lower access panel that is located below the left side of the engine. Remove the
lower access panel that is located below the right side of the engine.

2. Remove bolts (4) and plates (5) from the fan guard assemblies.
3. Remove bolts (1) and remove fan guard assemblies (2) .
4. Remove the bolts and guard (3) from the timing gear cover.
5. Loosen bolts (6) and (8) and move the alternator toward the engine. Remove the V-belts (7)
from the alternator pulley.
NOTICE
Care should be taken when removing the fan drive and adapter s a unit
not to damage the radiator by allowing the blades of the fan to contact
the radiator core.

6. Remove bolts (11). Remove fan assembly (12) and adapter (13) as a unit from the fan drive.
7. Remove V-belts (7) from the fan drive pulley.
8. Remove bolts (10), the spacer, and fan drive (9) from the engine.

3. Remove hub (3) and remove the bearings from bracket assembly (5) as an assembly.
4. Remove spacer (8) and pulley (4) from bracket assembly (5) .
5. Remove bearing cone (14) and spacer (13) from hub (3) .
6. Remove seal (9) and bearing cone (12) from the hub.
7. If necessary, remove bearing cups (10) and remove bearing cups (11) from hub (3) .

Required Tools

1. Use temperature resistant gloves and lower the temperature of the bearing cups prior to
installation. Install bearing cups in hub (3) .
2. Place bearing cone (12) in position in the hub. Install seal (9) with Tool (A). Install the seal
with the lip toward the inside of hub (3). Place a thin layer of 2S-3230 Bearing Lubricant on
the lip of the seal.
3. Install spacer (8) on bracket assembly (5) .
4. Install four mounting bolts (6) into bracket assembly (5). Pulley (4) and hub (3) should be
positioned on the bracket assembly.
5. Install spacer (13) in hub (3) .
6. Fill the cavity between the bearings with 2S-3230 Bearing Lubricant, and install bearing
(14) .
7. Place washer (2) in position on the bearing cone. Install bolt (1) and install nut (7) .
8. Place pulley (4) in position on hub (3) .
End By: Install the fan drive. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fan Drive - Remove and
Install".
