Install Tires & Rims
1. Put the tire and rim in position on the wheel studs with a cable and hoist.
2. Install stud nuts and tighten to a torque of 350 ± 35 lb ft (475 ± 45 Nm).
3. Lift the tire high enough to remove the wooden blocks and tooling (A) from under vehicle.

7. 1. Inspect O-ring seal for damage and make a replacement if necessary. Install seal (1) on spindle.
2. Put spindle (2) in place with oil holes in the vertical position and install the bolts to fasten it to
the axle housing. Tighten bolts to a torque of 220 ± 25 lb ft (300 ± 34 N·m)
3. Install bearing cone (3) in position on spindle.
4. Install the Duo-Cone seal in the wheel with tool (A).
NOTE: The rubber seals and all surfaces that make contact with the seals must be clean and dry.
After installation of the seals, put SAE 30 oil on the contact surfaces of the metal seals.
5. Install bearing cup in wheel assembly (4) with tooling (B).

8. 6. Turn the wheel assembly over and install the Duo-Cone seal with tool (A).
7. Install tool (D) on the wheel assembly (4) and put it in position on the wheel spindle. Inspect O-
ring seal and make a replacement if necessary. Install seal (5).
8. Install bushing in hub (6) with tooling (C).
9. Install bearing cone (7) on hub assembly.

9. 10. Install retaining ring (8) on back side of gear (9) to lock hub assembly (10) and gear together.
11. Install gear assembly (11) in position in the wheel assembly (11) in position in the wheel
assembly and on the spindle.
12. Install nut loosely on spindle with tool (E).
13. Install nut (12) from the rim and tire on wheel stud as show.

10. 14. To preload wheel bearings tighten nut (13) against hub with tool (E) while the wheel is turned
to put bearings in correct position. Check the wheel rotating torque with a 9S7354 Torque
Wrench. The turning torque must be 76 ± 27 lb in. (8.6 ± 3.0 N·m) from the wheel stud. Turn nut
(13) to the next bolt hole and install bolts (14).

NOTE: If the cover does not fit up against the final drive without force, remove the cover and
turn the flat sides of the three shafts as shown to give clearance for counterbore in cover.

14. 4. Disconnect brake line (5). Remove bolts (6), spacers and caliper from vehicle. Weight of caliper
is 95 lb (43 kg).
NOTE: The following notes should be taken when installing.
NOTE: Put 2P2506 Anti-Seize Compound on bolts and the face of spacers and install in position
to hold the caliper to the spindle. Tighten bolts to a torque of 120 ± 30 lb ft (160 ± 40 N·m).
Tighten bolt an additional 1/2 turn.
NOTE: Remove (bleed) the air from the brake system. See System Operation Testing And
Adjusting Manual.
NOTE: The clearance between pin (7) and the brake disc must not be less than .010 in. (0.25
mm). If the clearance is less than .010 in. (0.25 mm), turn bolt (8) counterclockwise one turn.
Slide pin (7) to get .010 in. (0.25 mm) clearance and tighten bolt (8) to a torque of 33 ± 5 lb ft (45
± 7 N·m).

2. Remove two pins (1) and brake carrier (2) from the brake head assembly.
3. Install tooling (A) on the brake head and the brake carrier (plate side) as shown.
4. Install block (4) so the maximum travel distance between block (4) and pistons (5) is not more
than 35 mm (1.378 in)
5. Put air free of water under a pressure of 690 to 1030 kPa (100 to 150 psi) into the brake head
assembly to make force to move out pistons (5).
6. Remove the block tooling (A), the pins and brake carrier from the brake head assembly.
7. Remove pistons (5) from the brake head.

2. Install two 1/2 "-13 NC forcing screws in carrier. Remove mounting bolts (1) and final drive
(2) from wheel. The weight of the final drive is 75 lb (34 kg).
3. The following steps are for the installation of the final drive.
4. Install tooling (A) and a hoist on the final drive carrier.
5. Put the final drive in the wheel assembly and install mounting bolts. Tighten bolts to a torque of
190 ± 18 lb ft (260 ± 24 N·m)
