David Livingstone was a Scottish missionary, doctor, and explorer born in 1813 in Glasgow, Scotland. He studied zoology, biology and botany. Between 1852-1856, he traveled from the Atlantic Ocean to the Indian Ocean, discovering Victoria Falls in 1855 and naming them in honor of Queen Victoria. Livingstone continued exploring Africa but died of malaria in 1873 in Zambia. His body was returned to England but his heart was buried in Africa as he saw that continent as his home.
