2. FlipToast
The FlipToast application is mounted on one’s desktop, and facilitates
access to Facebook accounts without the use of an Internet browser.
The program provides a view of all current news feeds in real time.
Users employ alerts to remain aware of new posts from friends on
their own wall, or other activities. News feed items appear in
notification windows, and a small red number, seen in the sidebar,
appears when someone comments on a user’s status or other post.
Users have the option of uploading photos to their existing albums,
or creating new ones. The application also supports simple
messaging and chat functions without the need of any browser. The
FlipToast application is available for PC and Macintosh operating
systems. Developer Shivani Khanna of W3i Software is the program’s
creator. The project, completed over a period of three weeks, is
among the company’s first forays into multi-platform development,
as most of its other business is focused on Microsoft Products.
