Start By:
a. Remove the circle drive. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Circle Drive - Remove".
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before you begin the disassembly procedure, the exterior
of the components should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the
internal mechanism. Precision components can be damaged by contaminants or by dirt. Perform
disassembly procedures on a clean work surface. Keep components covered and protected at all
times.

the temperature of bearing (28). Install bearing (28) to a depth of 2.00 � 0.50 mm
(0.079 � 0.020 inch) below the face.

3. Install worm assembly (29) in housing (3).
4. Lower the temperature on bearing cup (6). Install bearing cup (6) in bracket (5).
5. Torque nut (4A) to 20 N�m (15 lb ft) and nut (4B) 40 N�m (30 lb ft). Then Torque nut (4A)
to 80 N�m (60 lb ft) and nut (4B) 80 N�m (60 lb ft). Rotate the worm 3 revolutions then
back off the nuts.
6. Torque nut (4A) to 20 N�m (15 lb ft) and nut (4B) 40 N�m (30 lb ft) then torque nut (4A) to
40 N�m (30 lb ft) rotate the worm 3 revolutions.
7. Torque nut (4A) to 40 N�m (30 lb ft) and nut (4B) 40 N�m (30 lb ft). Measure the average
gap between the housing and adapter at the locations being torqued. Subtract
0.145 � 0.065 mm (0.006 � 0.003 inch) to obtain the desire shim pack thickness.

19. 13. Install shaft assembly (16). Remove Tooling (B). Tighten bolts (17) to 150 � 20N�m
(111 � 15 lb ft).
14. Wait 45 minutes, then remove bolts (17) and retainer (18) to add shims (20)
15. Determine the required number of shims (20) to obtain 2.30 � 0.25 mm (0.10 � 0.01 inch) of
deflection in spring (21). Use a depth micrometer to obtain the distance from the end of
shaft assembly (16) to the flat surface on spacer (19).
16. Subtract 2.30 � 0.25 mm (0.10 � 0.01 inch) from the dimension that was measured in Step
15. The calculated dimension is the thickness of shims (20).
17. Install shims (20), retainer (18), and bolts (17).
18. Tighten bolts (17) to a torque of 240 � 40 N�m (177 � 30 lb ft).
19. Tighten bolts (17) again to a torque of 240 � 40 N�m (177 � 30 lb ft).
Note: If bolts (17) are 1/2-13 thd bolts, follow Step 20 through Step 26 for the correct
shimming procedure.
20. Install shaft assembly (16). Remove Tooling (B). Tighten bolts (17) to 130 � 7 N�m
(96 � 5 lb ft).
21. Wait 45 minutes, then remove bolts (17) and retainer (18) to add shims (20)
22. Determine the required number of shims (20) to obtain 2.30 � 0.25 mm (0.10 � 0.01 inch) of
deflection in spring (21). Use a depth micrometer to obtain the distance from the end of
shaft assembly (16) to the flat surface on spacer (19).
23. Subtract 2.30 � 0.25 mm (0.10 � 0.01 inch) from the dimension that was measured in Step
15. The calculated dimension is the thickness of shims (20).
24. Install shims (20), retainer (18), and bolts (17).
25. Tighten bolts (17) to a torque of 130 � 7 N�m (96 � 5 lb ft).
26. Tighten bolts (17) again to a torque of 130 � 7 N�m (96 � 5 lb ft).
