Typical Example
1. Position lower cap (22) on the upper frame. Hold the lower cap in place with three bolts
(20) that are equally spaced. Make sure that the lower cap is seated firmly against the upper
frame.
2. Apply Tooling (K) to the bores.
3. Lower the temperature of lower bearing cup (35) to −50° ± 5°C (−58° ± 9°F).
4. Install lower bearing cup (35). Use Tooling (H) in order to ensure that bearing cup (35)
contacts lower cap (22) .

5. Apply clean oil to bearing cone (36). Install bearing cone (36) in the correct position, as
shown.

7. Lower the temperature of upper bearing cup (38) to −50° ± 5°C (−58° ± 9°F).
8. Install upper bearing cup (38). Use Tooling (H) in order to ensure that bearing cup (38)
lightly contacts the bearing cones.
9. Install the original shims (23) .
Note: Install the upper cap and lower cap in the original radial location.
10. Install upper cap (21). Install bolts (20) that are equally spaced at 120 degree intervals. The
torque for bolts (20) is 100 ± 20 N·m (75 ± 15 lb ft).
11. Install Tooling (G). Use a suitable torque wrench and Tooling (G) in order to determine the
amount of torque that is needed to rotate the bearing cones. As required, adjust the number
of shims in order to achieve a rolling torque between 1.1 N·m (9.7 lb in) and 5.6 N·m (49.6
lb in).
12. Remove Tooling (G) .

13. Remove upper cap (21) and lower cap (22) .
Note: When you install the upper cap and the lower cap on the machine, the sealing lips of
each lip seal must face upward.
14. Position lip seal (25) so that the sealing lip is facing upward. Use Tooling (H) in order to
install lip seal (25) in upper cap (21) so that the seal contacts the counterbore in the upper
cap.
15. Apply Tooling (K) on the sealing lip.
16. Position lip seal (24) so that the sealing lip is facing downward. Use Tooling (H) in order to
install lip seal (24) in lower cap (22) so that the seal contacts the counterbore in the lower
cap.
17. ApplyTooling (K) on the sealing lip.

18. Install the proper thickness of shims. Install lower cap (22), upper cap (21), and bolts (20) .
Note: The following steps are used for the assembly of the lower hitch bearings.
19. Position lower cap (31) on the lower frame. Hold the lower cap in place with four bolts (29)
that are equally spaced. Make sure that the lower cap is seated firmly against the upper
frame.

21. Lower the temperature of lower bearing cup (39) to −45°C (−49°F).
22. Install lower bearing cup (39). Use Tooling (H) in order to ensure that bearing cup (39)
contacts lower cap (31) .

25. Lower the temperature of upper bearing cup (41) to −45°C (−49°F).
26. Install upper bearing cup (42). Use Tooling (H) in order to ensure that bearing cup (42)
lightly contacts the bearing cones.
27. Install the original shims (32) .

28. Install upper cap (30). Install bolts (29) and the washers that are equally spaced at 90 degree
intervals. The torque for bolts (29) is 100 ± 20 N·m (75 ± 15 lb ft).
29. Install Tooling (J). Use a suitable torque wrench and Tooling (J) in order to determine the
amount of torque that is needed to rotate the bearing cones. As required, adjust the number
of shims in order to achieve a rolling torque between 1.1 N·m (10 lb in) and 5.6 N·m (50 lb
in).
30. Remove Tooling (J) .
31. Remove upper cap (30) and lower cap (31) .
Note: When you install the upper cap and the lower cap on the machine, the sealing lips of
each lip seal must face downward.
32. Position lip seal (33) so that the sealing lip is facing upward. Use Tooling (H) in order to
install lip seal (33) in upper cap (30) so that the seal contacts the counterbore in the upper
cap.

34. Position lip seal (34) so that the sealing lip is facing downward. Use Tooling (H) in order to
install lip seal (34) in lower cap (31) so that the seal contacts the counterbore in the lower
cap.
36. Install the proper thickness of shims. Install lower cap (31), upper cap (30), and bolts (29) .
37. Install upper spacer (28) .

39. Lower the temperature of lower sleeve bearing (26) and upper sleeve bearing (27) to −50° ±
5°C (−58° ± 9°F).
40. Install the sleeve bearings. Make sure that the sleeve bearings are flush with the bottom
surface of the bores.
Note: The following steps are used for the connection of the loader frame and the rear
frame.
41. Install Tooling (B) on the loader frame. Attach a suitable lifting device and lifting chains to
Tooling (B) .
42. Use a suitable lifting device in order to raise the loader frame.

43. Remove the suitable cribbing from the loader frame.
44. Use a suitable chain in order to secure the loader frame to the mast of the lift truck, as
shown.
45. Use a suitable lifting device and a suitable lift truck in order to connect the frames.

46. Use Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device in order to align the bores.
47. ApplyTooling (K) to the upper bores.
Note: Proper alignment of the bores is important.
48. Install pin assembly (19). Install bolt (18) and the washer.

49. ApplyTooling (K) to the lower bores.
50. Install pin (16) .
51. Connect the steering frame lock.
Note: Proper alignment of the bores will ensure that spacer (17) will seat properly.
52. Install lower spacer (17) in the lower hitch. Make sure that the spacer is installed in the
original position.

53. Install lower hitch mount plate (14). Install two bolts (13). The torque for bolts (13) is 68
N·m (50 lb ft).
54. Use a thickness feeler gauge in order to measure the distance between the frame and the
lower hitch mount plate. Check completely around the lower hitch mount plate. Record the
minimum measurement that is found.
55. Remove lower hitch mount plate (14) .
56. Install shims (15) under lower hitch mount plate (14). The shims thickness should equal the
measurement from Step 54 minus 0.25 mm (0.010 inch).
57. Install bolts (12) and (13). The torque for bolts (12) is 100 ± 20 N·m (75 ± 15 lb ft). The
torque for bolts (13) is 570 ± 80 N·m (420 ± 59 lb ft).

58. Remove the suitable lifting device and Tooling (B) from the loader frame.
59. Install bolt (11). Repeat on the other side of the loader frame.
60. Install light assemblies (9) and sensor (10) .

61. Remove the suitable cribbing from the front of the rear frame.
62. Remove Tooling (A) from the rear frame.

63. Install pin assembly (7) and bolt (6) to the rod end of both steering cylinders.
64. Connect hose assembly (3) .
65. Install bolt (4), the washer, and the clip.
66. Connect harness assembly (5) .
67. Connect hose assembly (2) to fixed axle (1) .
68. Fill the oil from the hydraulic tank. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual for the
correct procedure.
End By:
a. Install the steering frame lock.
b. Install the center drive shaft.
c. Install the cab.

Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect
SMCS - 7506-029
Connection Procedure
Personal injury or death can result from machine articulation or
movement.
Machine frames can move and a person can be crushed.
Connect the steering frame lock link between the front and rear frames
before working on machine. Secure clevis pin with locking pin.
Before operating the machine, fasten the steering frame lock link into
the stored position and secure the clevis pin with locking pin.
Failure to lock into the stored position before operating can result in
loss of steering.
1. Move the machine to a hard, level surface. Park the machine in the straight ahead position
and engage the parking brake.

2. Remove locking pin (2) from pin (1) .
3. Position steering frame lock (3) to the front frame. Install pin (1) and locking pin (2) .
Note: To align the pin bores, move the front loader frame.

Release Procedure
Start By:
A. Connect the steering frame lock.
Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.
Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the
engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is
not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.
Make sure all of the work tools have been lowered to the ground, and
the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil
filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool
enough to touch with your bare hand.
Escaping fluid under pressure, even a pinhole size leak, can penetrate
body tissue, causing serious injury, and possible death. If fluid is
injected into your skin, it must be treated immediately by a doctor
familiar with this type of injury.

Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak.
1. Move the machine to a location that is smooth, level, and hard. The location should also be
dry and free of debris. Stop the engine.
2. Permit only one operator on the machine. All other personnel should be kept away from the
machine.
3. Lower the bucket and/or work tools to the ground.
4. Engage the parking brake.
5. Stop the engine.
Note: If the machine is equipped with electro-hydraulic controls, turn the engine start
switch key to the ON position before performing the next step. The engine start switch key
must then be turned back to the OFF position before proceeding.
6. Move the control levers several times through the full range of travel. This will relieve any
pressure that may be present in the implement hydraulic system.
7. Depress the brake pedal repeatedly. This will relieve any pressure that may be present in the
braking system.
8. Push in the plunger for the hydraulic tank breaker relief valve until all pressure is released.
Note: If the machine is not equipped with a hydraulic tank breaker relief valve, the
hydraulic tank cap may be removed slowly in order to relieve tank pressure.

The weight of hood (2) is approximately 181 kg (400 lb).
3. Remove cotter pin (3) and pin (4) from hood tilt actuator (5) in order to disconnect hood tilt
actuator (5) from hood (2) .
