3 R’s Day
Learning
Outcomes
in PDHPE
Why are the 3 R’s so important?
Stage 1 Outcomes > INS1.3 – Interacting: Developing positive relationships with peers and other
students and teachers. Students display elements of cooperation by working together in classes
during the workshops and listening to the workshop instructors. Children use positive language
towards other students and teachers for the cause of Reducing, Reusing and Recycling. The
observation of how to recycle and why, develops students’ understanding of rules regarding group
sessions and encourages positive and concerning interaction with the teacher. Students show
concern for the wellbeing of the environment and have basic understanding of how they can care for
the environment with the 3 R’s, and the benefits and ease of applying the 3 R’s at home.
Stage 2 Outcomes> DMS2.2 – Decision Making: Students make decisions as individuals and as a
group member towards an overall, positive outcome. The 3 R’s provide a foreground for discussing
the advantages and disadvantages of not applying them when making decisions towards bettering
the environment, as well as the individual’s contribution to it. Students’ work together in workshops
to meet the realistic goals of environmental health through positive participation and take on roles
within the group to achieve the group/workshop consensus. Students are also encouraged and
inclined to justify reasoning according to their actions and decision making towards the 3 R’s.
Stage 3 Outcomes> PSS3.5 – Problem Solving: Students suggest and consider appropriate
alternatives when resolving problems. Critical thinking is used to select the most appropriate
alternative to an issue i.e. what products are best used for recycling and why? Students also reflect on
the outcomes of their decision-making and chosen solution, as well as demonstrating confidence and
assertiveness in their decision towards a positive outcome such as Environmental Health. Creating
plans and brainstorming ideas are also used to strategize in students’ discourse on what decision
would create the best possible outcome towards the 3 R’s. Students also formulate plans and enlist
support of teachers and the community for Environmental Health and Recycling i.e. teachers and the
local council.

3. On Friday 21st November 2015, all stage 2 classes (3/4a, 4b and 3a) will
be participating in the ‘Learning About Me’ Seminar after lunch in the
Sports Hall. All lessons before recess and recess break are as normal.
Students will be learning about Personal Identity, The Body and Values of
the Self through the first half of an interactive, 1.5-hour seminar. As
smaller groups, students will discuss what it means to have values as an
individual and create a diary with provided craft supplies recognizing
what they have learnt, their values and what their goals, strengths and
weaknesses are. Students will also be discussing what it means to change,
physically and emotionally.
Learning Outcomes in PDHPE for Stage 2
COS2.1 – Communicating
During the seminar, students will share valuable ideas, feelings and
opinions towards what they think about ‘Learning About Me’. Students
communicate with each other in large groups and minor subdivisions to
convey their ideas about what they like, dislike and how they critically
analyze the concept of the ‘self’ and what constitutes to it. Craft will be
used as a medium to exemplify their participation in the group and as
individuals. Students also discuss the self-transformation of taking on
different roles throughout the various stages of life, whilst critically
analyzing the positive and negative discourses they have taken, as well as
constructive criticisms about what they agree/disagree with.
DMS2.2 – Decision Making
Students discuss the advantages and disadvantages of positive/negative
discourses in choosing friends and what a good friend means to them.
Information and input from other students and teachers is gathered to
contribute to group discussions and opinions about individuality. Students
also consider their strengths and weaknesses and critically assess their
limitations as individuals and as part of a class, school, family, community
and other groups they may affiliate themselves to. Students also consider
their own feelings as well as the sensitivity of those in the group, and
clarify reasons for arriving at certain conclusions.
INS2.3 – Interacting
Students: learn to make positive contributions as individuals towards
group activities. They also work independently during Diary Time to
create a reflection of group discussions and personal reflections. Students
also develop friendships and learn to support other students, as well as
teachers, for the common cause of connecting with one another through
identity values. In a diverse, group environment, students also learn to
show tolerance towards unique individuals, cultures and attitudes that
constitute different people’s identities. Students also discuss the negative
effects of self-exclusion and the exclusion of individuals from friendships
and societies.
