2. THE STORY
• This would be an adaption of ‘social good’ by Bobby Hudson. The story would
follow the dystopian backdrop of a huge food shortage caused by the
nation’s population tripling upon 2050. To combat this the government has
established a conscription service where people have to be processed upon
their 18th birthday’s. Another troubled teenage convict is forced by the
government to conscript people to service or he faces prosecution and his
parents will be conscripted. He locates Polly Filch and attempts to persuade
her to be conscripted. She attempts to run away but ends up at a back alley
and pleads for her life. The teenager is touched but knows he must enlist her.
She lunges for him and tries to fight for survival. A very visceral fight happens
which results in the teenager strangling Polly in order to survive. He rolls over
and weeps next to her body as he remembers the consequences of his
actions.
