Which genres are most profitable? Can you notice any trends at the
box office?
Looking at the money made from films in specific genres, Comedy
seems to have to topped the charts for making the most money by
taking in a total of $44,517,094,663 between 1995 to 2011.
Adventure and drama are close followers with a difference of around
$10,000,000,000. This shows that the most popular and profitable
genres are those that are available and appealing to a wide range of
ages and tastes.
However, technically the most profitable films would be those that
make the most profit as in returns from the budgets. Although
blockbuster action and horror films make a large amount of money,
in terms of their budgets, which are normally very large, they don’t
make that much profit. It is the films that have small budgets that go
on to be a hit and make large amounts of money that would be the
most profitable. This would mean film genres like comedies,
romances and documentaries that technically make the most profit.
For example, films like Napoleon Dynamite and the documentary
Super Size Me have very high profits compared to films like Avatar or
Titanic.
