2. Who? Anybody who has a difficult time making decisions
What? Not being able to choose between two choices
When? Any time that it’s needed
Where? Wherever there are people that need help choosing
between something
Why? Because lots of people have trouble making decisions.
For example, I (Else) was having a really hard time deciding
between summer camps to attend, and it had gone on so long that
I couldn’t wait any longer to decide. This app would definitely have
helped me make my decision faster and save a lot of time spent
stressing out.
Who/What/Where/When/Why?
3. People have a hard time choosing what decision to make, be
it which summer camp to go to or what job to take, and then
have more stress on what to choose, on top of just the stress
from having to make a decision.
What’s our problem?
4. How can we make it easier for people to make choices so
they don’t have to stress out?
Core question
5. Sometimes having something to help make a choice and walk through
the process with you can aid in making a difficult decision.
How is/can our app help?
6. Elevator Pitch
Our team, The
Choice Makers,
is developing
an app
to help any
person who
has problems
making
decisions that
will walk them
through the
processes.
7. This app is mainly for people who have a difficult time
making decisions. It works best for people who are a little
stressed out, and can get flustered when they’re trying to
make a decision. People can choose to either use it as a
suggestion, or take it more seriously. It also works well for
people who need to make a decision but don’t have much
time.
Who’s the app for?
8. Our app starts on a welcome screen. Then, when you click “start”, it
takes you to the screen that you input your choices to. We noticed that
some people were getting confused, so we added a button that you
could click to go to an example page. Then, there are two pro/con
screens, where you input the good and the bad things about each
choice, and rate how good/bad they are. Finally, there’s a “next”
button that tells you what choice to make! There’s also a screen that
has tips on it for making your own informed decision.
App flow
10. This is where you enter the things
you are deciding between
And here is where you put pros and cons for each,
and then rate them on a scale of 1-3, three being
most important.
12. Our app is pretty straightforward, and there aren’t too many
problems. It is functional, and produces an answer. There is no data
required for our app (you just start over each time). Many people
have said that this could help them, so we are hoping that it would be
pretty easy to produce.
App Summary
13. What else?
We had people at our school, and our families, test our app.
Many said that it was something that they would use, and we
also noticed that some people go through this same process
to make decisions but having an app would make it easier
because it’s more structured.
There aren’t very many decision making apps out there. This
app can help people because it is a structured way of going
through the good and bad of each choice and then can help
make a knowledgeable decision.
Editor's Notes
A title slide describing the name of the app, the team name and the names of team members and possibly a logo, if you have one
What is the background situation you are addressing? Describe the context users are experiencing.
Example:
Buzzer Buddiez:
Who? Students
What? Students are studying for exams
When? 7am
Where? Student dorm
Why? Late night cramming, student likely to oversleep
What specific problem do people encounter in that situation? Use the results from your user research
Examples:
Buzzer Buddiez: your alarm does not work and you are thus late for: school, work, exams, doctor etc
Transit: Many parents don’t speak English and their children have to translate the feedback that a teacher provides. When the feedback is negative students mistranslate.
What core question are you addressing with the app?
Examples:
Buzzer Buddiez: how can you avoid oversleeping?
Transit: how can negative teacher feedback be translated accurately?
Use your key insights statements from your findings during User Research to provide evidence that your app is solving a genuine problem in a different way for users.
Examples:
Buzzer Buddiez: you wake up to hit snooze/ switch off the alarm, but don’t get up. Friends and family i.e. social pressure can help to push you to actually get out of bed.
Transit: parent- teacher conferences are not open-ended conversations. You can map the key areas of negative feedback around attendance, behavior, results etc. to bridge the conversation between parents and teachers.
To introduce the judges to your team and the product, include your final one minute elevator pitch here.
Example:
- Buzzer Buddiez: Our team, [Buzzer Buddiez], is developing [a mobile app] to help [students] [who have studied late and are likely to oversleep because they hit snooze on their alarm clock] [to wake up on time with the help from friends and family]
