Demons in mark

  1. 1. Demons in the Gospel of Mark In the Gospel of Mark Jesus encounters the enemy moretimes then the other Gospels. This is my journaling on those events.
  2. 2. Chapter 1:12-13
  3. 3. Chapter 1:12-13At once the Spirit sent him out into the desert, and he was in thedesert for forty days, being tempted by Satan. He was with thewild animals, and angels attended him (NIV).
  4. 4. Chapter 1:12-13At once the Spirit sent him out into the desert, and he was in thedesert for forty days, being tempted by Satan. He was with thewild animals, and angels attended him (NIV). We can gather that at times we can be led into “valleys” or “deserts” in our lives.
  5. 5. Chapter 1:12-13At once the Spirit sent him out into the desert, and he was in thedesert for forty days, being tempted by Satan. He was with thewild animals, and angels attended him (NIV). We can gather that at times we can be led into “valleys” or “deserts” in our lives. During these times Satan can tempt us as we can be vulnerable due to our state.
  6. 6. However, we have on our side angels who are ready to attend to us. We just need to seek them and ask for their aid.
  7. 7. Chapter 1:23-28
  8. 8. Chapter 1:23-28Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by anevil spirit cried out, “What do you want from us Jesus ofNazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are-the Holy One of God!”
  9. 9. Chapter 1:23-28Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by anevil spirit cried out, “What do you want from us Jesus ofNazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are-the Holy One of God!”“Be quiet!” sad Jesus sternly. “Come out of him!” The evilspirit shook the man violently and came out of him with ashriek.
  10. 10. The people were all so amazed that they asked each other,“What is this? A new teaching-and with authority! He evengives orders to evil spirits and they obey him.” News about himspread quickly over the whole region of Galilee

  14. 14. Chapter 1:23-28The demons know the Jesus and the powerof God.The demons obey JesusWhen we take the name of Jesus and castout demons we can help spread the newsabout Jesus as people will be amazed
  15. 15. Chapter 1:32-34
  16. 16. Chapter 1:32-34That evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon-possessed. The whole town gathered at the door, and Jesus healed many who hadvarious diseases. He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demonsspeak because they knew who he was.

He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demonsspeak because they knew who he was. Often it is a good idea to ask them repeatedly, “Have you spoken the truth in the presence of God the Father?” and to command them to look a the throne the cross, the blood of Jesus.
  22. 22. Chapter 3:11
  23. 23. Chapter 3:11Whenever the evil spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, You arethe Son of God.
  24. 24. Chapter 3:11Whenever the evil spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, You arethe Son of God. There have been times when as I have become free from the demonic (and even before I became aware of it) that people filled with the Holy Spirit.
  25. 25. Chapter 3:11Whenever the evil spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, You arethe Son of God. There have been times when as I have become free from the demonic (and even before I became aware of it) that people filled with the Holy Spirit. This can create stirs of great discomfort where I wanted to flee but at the same time I have often been paralyzed by the mix of the fear they had for God and my desire to grow towards God.

This can create stirs of great discomfort where I wanted to flee but at the same time I have often been paralyzed by the mix of the fear they had for God and my desire to grow towards God. It is quite possible that the demon residing in a person knows of their (a possible) doom when their “host” gets near the right person.
  27. 27. Chapter 3:13-15
  28. 28. Chapter 3:13-15Jesus went up on a mountainside andcalled to him those he wanted, and theycame to him. He appointed twelve-designating them apostles-that they mightbe with him and that he might send themout to preach and to have authority todrive out demons
  29. 29. Chapter 3:13-15
  30. 30. Chapter 3:13-15When we become disciples of Jesus wegain this same authority. We can andshould take the authority that Christ hasgiven us to exile these demons.
  31. 31. Chapter 3:13-15When we become disciples of Jesus wegain this same authority. We can andshould take the authority that Christ hasgiven us to exile these demons. Only give them two exits: the abyss to wait there judgement or to the feet of Jesus to plead their case before Him.
  32. 32. Chapter 5:1-17
  33. 33. Chapter 5:1-17They went across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes. When Jesus got out of the boat, a man with animpure spirit came from the tombs to meet him. This man lived in the tombs, and no one could bind himanymore, not even with a chain. For he had often been chained hand and foot, but he tore the chains apartand broke the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him. Night and day among the tombs andin the hills he would cry out and cut himself with stones.

Night and day among the tombs andin the hills he would cry out and cut himself with stones. When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him. He shouted at the top of hisvoice, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? In God’s name don’t torture me!” ForJesus had said to him, “Come out of this man, you impure spirit!” Then Jesus asked him, “What is yourname?” “My name is Legion,” he replied, “for we are many.” And he begged Jesus again and again not tosend them out of the area.

The demons begged Jesus, “Send us among the pigs;allow us to go into them.” He gave them permission, and the impure spirits came out and went into the pigs. The herd, about two thousand in number, rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned.

  37. 37. Chapter 5:1-17Jesus encounter a man with many demons and all of them know who Jesus is. Some demons have power and no man or woman can subdue the person they inhabit. Some demons even cause harm to the person they are within However they will fall apart when they come near someone with the Holy Spirit who has the authority of Jesus. This said often times the power of Jesus we carry can scare and even cause people to ask us to go away from them. This is due to a lack of understanding of God on the people’s part because they have been blinded by the enemy.
  38. 38. Chapter 6:17-20
  39. 39. Chapter 6:17-20For Herod himself had given orders to have John the Baptistarrested, and he had him bound and put in prison. He did htisbecause of the Herodias, his brother Phillip’s wife, whom hehad married. For John had been saying to Herod, “It is notlawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”
  40. 40. Chapter 6:17-20For Herod himself had given orders to have John the Baptistarrested, and he had him bound and put in prison. He did htisbecause of the Herodias, his brother Phillip’s wife, whom hehad married. For John had been saying to Herod, “It is notlawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”So Herodias nursed a grudge against John and wanted to killhim. But she was not able to, because Herod feared John andprotected him, knowing him to be a righteous and holy man. When Herod heard John, he was greatly puzzled; yet he liked tolisten to him

  42. 42. Chapter 6:17-20I would imply that Herod was demonized as he on one handimprisoned John, yet he wanted to protect him.
  43. 43. Chapter 6:17-20I would imply that Herod was demonized as he on one handimprisoned John, yet he wanted to protect him. Also when he heard John preach he was amazed and puzzled.
  44. 44. Chapter 6:17-20I would imply that Herod was demonized as he on one handimprisoned John, yet he wanted to protect him. Also when he heard John preach he was amazed and puzzled.Often people who are demonized may be drawn to those whospeak of things of God and Jesus. However, they may have aconflict within them where they want to hear God, but theybecome puzzled due to the blinding of the enemy
  45. 45. Chapter 8:32-33
  46. 46. Chapter 8:32-33He spoke plainly about this, and Peter took him aside andbegan to rebuke him. But Jesus turned and looked at hisdisciples, he rebuked Peter. “Get behind me Satan!” he said.“You do not have in mind the things of God, but the things ofmen.”
  47. 47. Chapter 8:32-33He spoke plainly about this, and Peter took him aside andbegan to rebuke him. But Jesus turned and looked at hisdisciples, he rebuked Peter. “Get behind me Satan!” he said.“You do not have in mind the things of God, but the things ofmen.” When we gather with other believers we should be mindful of things that people may have fallen into with the enemy.

But Jesus turned and looked at hisdisciples, he rebuked Peter. “Get behind me Satan!” he said.“You do not have in mind the things of God, but the things ofmen.” When we gather with other believers we should be mindful of things that people may have fallen into with the enemy. as well as ourselves we should be mindful of the whispers of the enemy.
  49. 49. Chapter 9:17-29A man in the crowd answered, “Teacher, I brought you my son,who is possessed by a spirit that has robbed him of speech.Whenever it seizes him, it throws him to the ground. He foams atthe mouth, gnashes his teeth and becomes rigid. I asked yourdisciples to drive out the spirit, but they could not.”“You unbelieving generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall Istay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boyto me.”So they brought him. When the spirit saw Jesus, it immediatelythrew the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolledaround, foaming at the mouth.

  60. 60. Chapter 9:17-29There are some demons that come early (possibly throughgenerational sins or even influences that the child may have hadyoung from the parents or upbringing.Often times we may not be able to drive out demons by justcommanding them. There was a few demons that would not come out of me and people I trusted could not command them to leave. My friends used this passage and prayed and fasted to weaken the hold on the demons.
  61. 61. Chapter 9:38-41
  62. 62. Chapter 9:38-41“Teacher,” said John, “we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we told him to stop, because hewas not one of us.”
  63. 63. Chapter 9:38-41“Teacher,” said John, “we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we told him to stop, because hewas not one of us.”“Do not stop him,” Jesus said. “For no one who does a miracle in my name can in the next moment sayanything bad about me, for whoever is not against us is for us. Truly I tell you, anyone who gives you a cup ofwater in my name because you belong to the Messiah will certainly not lose their reward.
  64. 64. Remember that your church or group of believers you associate yourself with may not be the only church casting out demons and teaching in the name of Jesus. We must respect those who are carrying Jesus name.... but at the same time test the spirits (Matthew 7:22).

Remember that your church or group of believers you associate yourself with may not be the only church casting out demons and teaching in the name of Jesus. We must respect those who are carrying Jesus name.... but at the same time test the spirits (Matthew 7:22).
