2. Naval Base The Pearl Harbor Naval Station was built in 1910 off the coast of Hawaii. It provided a “pit stop” for US Submarines, Warships and more.
3. Angry Japs >:| September 1940, President Roosevelt placed an embargo on Japan by prohibiting exports of steel, scrap iron, and aviation fuel to Japan. The Japanese grew angry. GRR!
4. Day of Infamy On the a peaceful morning of December 7, 1941 Japanese aircrafts darkened the sky. Japanese launched an attack on Ford Island.
5. 1st Wave Consisted of 183 aircrafts composed mainly of dive bombers attacking military airfields of Pearl Harbor.
6. 2nd Wave The second wave of 171 aircrafts, mostly torpedo bombers attacked the Pacific Fleet in Pearl Harbor.
7. USS ARIZONA At least 1,177 lives were lost when the Battleship USS Arizona was hit with an armor-piercing bomb which penetrated the ammunition compartment blowing the ship up in a matter of seconds.
8. Aftermath In two waves of terror lasting two long hours, the Japanese killed or wounded over 3,500 Americans, and all 8 US battleships were sunk or severely damaged.
9. BEEF President Roosevelt shortly after the raid sent a letter to congress asking for a Declaration of War.
