the mother church of the
Anglican Communion and seat
of the Archbishop of
Canterbury, leader of the
Church of England.
The historic cathedral was
immortalized in Geoffrey
Chaucer's "The Canterbury
Tales," about the pilgrims who
flocked to the church after
the murder of Archbishop
Thomas Becket in 1170.
The church is one of England's
most famous historical
landmarks and is open daily to
visitors. Services are still held
in the cathedral
