degree from the University of Michigan before attending
Harvard University, where he earned both a Juris Doctor
and an MBA in a combined degree program. Currently the
corporate occupier and director of investor services for
Signature Associates, a commercial real estate firm in the
Detroit suburb of Southfield, he has also worked at Hines
Interests and MayfieldGentry Realty Advisors. Outside the
office, Emery Matthews pursues numerous intellectual
interests and enthusiastically supports several charitable
organizations, He chairs the board of Detroit’s Gesu
Catholic School.
3. Established in 1925, Detroit’s Gesu Catholic School is an
elementary school serving nearly 200 students in grades one
through eight, as well as kindergarten and pre-K. It is rated
among the top three Detroit elementary schools in school
climate and academic progress. It is fully accredited and its
professional staff is certified by both the State of Michigan and
the Archdiocese of Detroit.
Classes are relatively limited in size and classrooms are
equipped with streaming video and smartboards. The school’s
computer lab was updated in the summer of 2013 and the
library recently acquired more than 2,000 new volumes.
Extended daycare is available both before and after regular
school hours, and students have access to the Gesu Green, a
private playground and garden.

Society of Jesus, more commonly known as the
Jesuits. The name “Gesù” comes from the
Italian name of the Society’s mother church in
Rome: Chiesa del Santissimo Nome di Gesù
all'Argentina. When the school was founded, it
was led by Jesuit priests and staffed by nuns of
the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of
Mary.
