This Self Learning Kit (SLK) is an exploratory course which leads
you to Computer Systems Servicing NC II in order for you to
know and gain more knowledge about the course in improving
your skills that will help you in the near future.
In this Self Learning Kit, it covers the Most Essential
Learning Competencies (MELC) that a Grade 10 Technology
and Livelihood Education (TLE) ICT - CSS students like you
ought to possess, namely:

2. Setting Up Computer Networks
3. Setting Up Computer Servers
4. Maintaining and Repairing Computer Systems
and Networks
This SLK together with your Written Task Outputs will be
collected every week. You are highly encouraged to accomplish
the tasks on your scheduled time.

softwares to be installed in the computer;
2. describe the different application and
antivirus softwares;
3. enumerate the installed application
software/programs in your computer; and
4. recognize the importance of installing the
application and antivirus softwares.

After installing and configuring of
peripheral devices in Lesson 3, the next
thing you should is to install applications
and antivirus software in your
computer.. Read carefully the following
information and take note in your
notebook.
2. There are operating systems that have a lot of generic
drivers that allow hardware to work at a basic level without
needing drivers.
3. If you install a driver for hardware not installed in the
computer, expect that your computer will work faster and
more capable.

A new computer is a blank slate of potential, and a fresh
installation of Windows can give your PC a new lease on life, but
it's not really much until you start loading your machine up with all
the programs and utilities you need for work and play. Check out
these different apps from different online sources recommend
installing on a new PC, ranging from office programs, antivirus
and anti-malware tools to web browsers and media players.
In installing the different programs, I would recommend to
install first office programs, web browsers, utilities, and the last to
be installed should be anti-virus programs and Malwarebytes. If
you first install anti-virus programs and Malwarebytes, there is a

tendency that these programs will detect other programs as
threat, thereby halting the installation of other programs.
Microsoft Office / LibreOffice
Why blow your budget on expensive subscriptions for
office applications like spreadsheet or document editors, or be
dependent on the vagaries of the cloud with browser-based tools
when you can get an excellent
productivity suite for your desktop
free, open-source, and offline?
That's the idea behind The
Document Foundation's LibreOffice, a free suite of office tools
that provide users with a complete set of productivity tools for
handling everything from documents, spreadsheets, slideshow
presentations, and more. LibreOffice is that wonderful
combination of free and polished, making it a great alternative to
expensive professional office tools.
Microsoft Office, or
simply Office, is a family of client
software, server software, and
services developed by Microsoft.
Microsoft office is a proprietary program which means you have
to pay for the full subscription or the activation code.
Google Chrome
It's still a bit hard to believe:
in a span of a few years, Google
Chrome has grown from its buggy
beginnings into a popular
heavyweight browser. Chrome does a little bit of everything, with
a basic minimalist view that you can expand on with a rich
ecosystem of plugins and add-ons, while also providing excellent
cross-platform and cross-device syncing.

Mozilla Firefox
The first web browser that
really made a dent on Internet
Explorer's long-time dominance, Mozilla Firefox popularized the
multi-tab setup and third-party plugins that add to the program's
utility. While it's lost out to Chrome in the battle for desktop

of users and add-on developers makes Firefox an excellent
alternative for your PC's web browser.

more programs you install and
run on a Windows PC, the slower it

with contacts that are literally halfway around the world. The only
problem: you need a good internet connection to maximize it.

LastPass takes the pain out

providing users with an excellent
cross-platform password
management tool that allows users to easily keep track of logins,
passwords, and other online credentials through the use of an
encrypted password vault that only you know the password to.,
with premium subscriptions unlocking more features such as
premium two factor authentication, account sharing, and
LastPass for Applications.
VLC
Need to play that video or audio
clip stored in an obscure file format?
Chances are VLC get the job done. As
one of the more popular free media
players (with an admittedly weak management component),
VLC’s strength has always been its support for practically any
media format out there, as well as its low demand on any PC.
Winrar
Windows includes native support for
simple zipped files, but anything beyond the
basics requires a more powerful tool. While

for working with any kind of archived files you might encounter.

antivirus program that is capable of
detecting any type of virus in your USB
Flash Drive. SmadAV has got
a good rating on several popular software
providing websites like CNet, Filehorse, Filehippo,
etc. SmadAV is really good at identifying and killing any kind of
virus in USB flash drives.

The first programs that you should install after
Windows or any operating system are office
program (either Libre Office or MS Office), and

Install other programs such as LastPass, Skype,

The last software to install are the anti-virus and
anti-malware programs such as Avast,
Malwarebytes and Smadav. These programs if
installed first will block other installations.

How to locate the programs installed? Follow the listed steps.
NOTE: DO NOT CLICK UNINSTALL BUTTON INSIDE THE
CONTROL PANEL.
1. In the search bar, type Control Panel. Or press  + R on the
keyboard and type Control Panel. Press OK or hit enter on the
keyboard.
2. Click the Uninstall a program to open the window.
3. The Uninstall a Program window will appear. You just have to
scroll and copy but do not delete any program. Copy at least
five (5) programs preferably the ones previously discussed. If
it is not available, any program will do.
