2. Bauer Media
www.bauermedia.co.uk
Bauer Media own a vast range of different
media features. It owns music magazines Q
and Kerrang!, plus other types of magazines
such as women’s weekly and television
guides. It also has its own radio station -
Bauer Radio and television music channels
such as Q TV, 4Music and Smash Hits TV.
3. Bauer Media publish both Q and Kerrang!
Magazines, which are both major sellers. They
most likely do this as even though Q is a general
music magazine for all genres, Kerrang! is a rock
genre magazine which is in a niche market, giving
it a unique selling point. Even though Q is a
general magazine, this fact is a USP in itself since
there are not many that do this – most focus on
one genre. The fact Bauer Media owns both of
these means the company has a bigger market
share in the music magazine sector, hence
making less competition for them to succeed.
4. Hearst Magazines UK
www.hearst.co.uk
Hearst owns more than 300 various
magazines, mainly aimed at women. These
include Cosmopolitan, Reveal and House
Beautiful – along with a lot more well known
ones, also houses other aspects of media
including 29 television stations through Hearst
Television Inc. and 15 daily and 38 weekly
newspapers. Hearst may be interested in using
my magazine as it would widen the possible
target audience and give them a totally new
direction for a section of their company to
follow.
5. The research I have done has shown that even
though Q magazine allows for music lovers from
various genres to have interest in the
magazine, another magazine with the same
target audience i.e. anyone who’s interested in
music, and the broadness of the target audience
will mean that since my magazine is aimed at the
same, it does not matter and it will feature
different content and have different unique
selling points.
