High Bounce Rate? This Might Be Why

  1. 1. High Bounce Rate? This Might Be Why. High bounce rate on your website? Here's a look at what triggers a bounce, and 6 common reasons why you might be seeing a high bounce rate on your site.
  2. 2. To understand website traffic, you need to know the term “BOUNCE RATE”. Bounce rate is “the percentage of visitors to a particular website who navigate away from the site after viewing only one page”.
  3. 3. Bounce rates directly relates to the amount of time users are spent on your site. These four types of actions register as a bounce from your site: 1. Visitor clicks the back button 2. Visitor closes the browser 3. Visitor types a new URL 4. Visitor does nothing, and session times out
  4. 4. Now that you understand what it means, & what triggers a bounce… let’s review some common reasons why a visitor would leave your website.
  5. 5. #1 Bad Website Design.
  6. 6. Your website should not only be mobile- responsive, but it should also be aesthetically pleasing. Showing the personality or uniqueness of your company through your website design will help keep customers on and clicking through your website.
  7. 7. #2 Complicated Site Navigation.
  8. 8. Users must be able to find the information they’re need within three clicks, otherwise they will go back to their search results. Organize your content in a way that makes sense & label your content correctly. People should have an idea what the page’s content is about before they even click on it.
  9. 9. #3 No Calls to Action.
  10. 10. If there are no calls to action on your site, visitors arrive to your site, and have no idea where to go next. When putting together your calls-to-action, keep your objectives in mind. What actions do you want your visitors to take on each page?
  11. 11. #4 Wrong Use of External Links.
  12. 12. Your website could be fabulous, but if you include too many external links people will click them and leave your page. We always recommend setting up the external links to open in a separate window. Users will still have your site accessible, but can explore the external link as well.
  13. 13. #5 Slow Website Speed.
  14. 14. Would you stay on a page for more than 5, or 10 seconds for it to load? The answer is no, and neither will your website’s visitors. We recommend addressing this with a web developer. If you aren’t working with one, there are tons of great resources available online!
  15. 15. #6 Irrelevant Content.
  16. 16. Quality content with high relevance is one of the biggest SEO factors in Google’s search algorithm. Find out what your target audience is searching for, & incorporate those keywords into your copy. You don’t want your site showing up for thing that have nothing to do with what your website is actually about.
  17. 17. Your bounce rates be contingent on your website’s unique audience. The important thing is this—in order for visitors to convert into users (and more importantly, customers) they have to stick around on your site. Ideally, they’re on there long enough to trigger a conversion. Lowering your bounce rate is possible—it just requires figuring out why people are leaving and fixing it.
