Success leaves clues
1. Success, Following The Clues
Success is a word that is used and abused by most of us.
We strive for success; we envy those that have achieved success.
Success seems to be always just out of our reach.
It's a word that some are obsessed over.
Those of us that strive for a better place in our life, that strive for improvement, we
strive for what is called success.
But I have a question, how do you know when you have achieved success?
For most achievers, motivated individuals, entrepreneurs the word success is associated with goals,
plans, dreams, but progressive achievement of each goal can be considered a success, but to those it's
never an end in and of itself. The definition I use for success is:
"A progressive realization of worthwhile predetermined goals."
Key words in that phrase:
Progressive realization:
Meaning constant, forward moving efforts toward our goals.
Worthwhile:
If we are going to spend effort, energy, time then it definitely needs to be in the areas of worthwhile
goals. Most of us spend time in areas of our life that are not productive or positive. This seems like an
obvious point, however so many of us waste the majority of our time on non-productive activities,
2. never quite getting around to the truly important subjects that will change our lives. We, as the saying
goes, major in the minors, and then wonder why we never accomplish our truly important goals.
Predetermined goals:
There is a major distinction between goals and dreams, or wishes. Dreams and wishes are vague, they
have no substance or structure, they are about as helpful toward your success as crossing your fingers
and hoping. Predetermined goals implies taking time to formulate a specific direction, actions, and a
time frame to accomplish a predetermined outcome, or result. There is a specific plan, not just a
dream, or wish. What I am describing is the fabric of which successful people are made. The positive
actions that they take on a daily basis has become a habit in there lives. It has become a part of their
daily routine; in fact who they actually are and their success focus are one and the same. It has
become part of their very being.
This probably was not true of them initially, but they have done their homework, with focus and
intention for so long that who they are and success are now one and the same. This transformation can
happen to you if you make success in your life an absolute priority. If you are willing to make
the sacrifice over the minors in life in order to have a laser focus on the majors. If you can develop this
level discipline to do that, and most people unfortunately don't, your success will be virtually
guaranteed. It's not easy, but in the end it will be worth it.
