Hello College Grads, College Students, and any other individuals who may find themselves considering the Med School path. If you're deciding now, you are one of many. This is my advice to you, my encouragement on your journey, or your potential journey into Medical School. l will remind you to be mindful of your health, not to stress too much about your grades, and to remember, it is the beautiful horizon brought on by the destination at the completion of your Med School Journey!

1. Applying to Med School: Advice for your Health and Grades!

It is said, “Its about the journey, not the destination”. In a journey as potentially perilous as the
road to becoming a medical professional, l would like to make it a point to remind all aspiring
Doctors and Medical Professionals of any kind, that their destination is where the joy lays.!

Its all too easy to get lost in the process. For such an intensive path
in life, one must recognize the beautiful goal in mind. The important
thing is, becoming a doctor, an adolescent psychiatrist, a
cardiovascular specialist, or medical professional of any kind.!
!
Med Schools are now more than ever more competitive to get into.
And yes, you will have to get into Medical School. And for that, great
attention will be paid to your grades. However, keep this in mind,
whether your grades are good or not, it is the amount of
concentration, and the amount of effort you will dedicate once you
begin.!

Of course, you will most likely have to begin exerting that effort
before you begin Med School. Just keep in mind, you are not alone
among other students who decide late to begin applying themselves.!

What does it take? I believe a source of inspiration is one’s
motivation. You may be almost through with college when you
realize what really captures your interest. You may even be years into your first career when the
thought strikes you: I want to be a doctor. I want to make a difference in the lives of individuals
and l want to make a difference in my community at large, and l believe being a medical
professional is the most surefire way to affect others for the better.!

During my experience at school I worked very hard. Only I never understood what I wanted to
do. I did well in all my subjects: English, Writing, Latin. l tried in Math and was studious, though
it never clicked with me like it did some of my colleagues. I was lucky to enjoy good health, and
apply my youthful energy to my studies, whatever they were at the time. I had gone through
college before I realized how much l loved Psychiatry. I was more than enough time into Med
School already.!

My time in Med School became my
journey into becoming an Adolescent
Psychiatrist. I had no idea that this is
what would catch my eye. Once I had
my first exposure to Psychiatry, I
couldn’t keep my mind away from it. I
was engaged on all levels. My mind
soared with questions, possibilities,
and l was astounded at the
possibilities of assisting others. I was
amazed at the possibility of being
able to help people on such a
immediate level.!

I empathize with the difficult journey to and through Medical School, I really do. Just bear in
mind the pride that will come for having completed the journey. You are one of a few beloved
professionals this world needs! !

Whether your grades are good or bad, the world needs you, and there is always going to be a
place for more doctors and medical professionals.!

My advice: take a year abroad, after college or before college, to assist in some medical
capacity overseas. One, you will be able to see if this is really the path for you. Does this excite
you? Can you see yourself doing it? *Please don’t forget: try not to confuse the experience of
being abroad with the experience of trying medicine. In most cases, the places requiring help
abroad will be less professional or less equipped to handle patients properly. So keep in mind
the difference in your experience, and be mindful of your health. Two, potential schools will view
this favorably, and it may better your chances of acceptance should you be in the boat where
your grades were not where you wished they were previously.
