2. Board-certified oral and maxillofacial
surgeon New Jersey-based Dr. Anup
Muduli offers surgical services at St.
Joseph's Regional Medical Center,
Valley Hospital, and Chinton Memorial
Hospital. Dr. Anup Muduli also regularly
performs bone grafting in his private
practice, Rampao Oral and Maxillofacial
Surgery.
3. Oral surgeons employ bone grafting to
increase the surface area available for an
implant treatment or to inhibit bone
recession after surgery or disease. The
procedure may involve the implantation of
the patient's own natural bone or that of a
donor, although surgeons may also elect to
use animal bone synthetic material. In
many cases, the surgeon may be able to
use bone from another part of the jaw itself.
The patient's own bone tends to produce
the most effective results.
4. Bone grafting may make significant
changes to the shape and size of the jaw,
or it may simply implant enough bone to
hold an implant in place. A surgeon may
perform less intensive grafting procedures
as part of an implant surgery itself, although
larger-scale grafts require a separate
procedure. Both procedures are day
surgeries and typically require only local
anesthetic.
