General Objective: To deepen students’ awareness of the importance of studying another

2. Specific Objectives: Students will be able to:
i. State three benefits of learning another language
ii . List the names of ten Spanish speaking countries and their capitals
iii. Pronounce the letters in the Spanish alphabet
iv. Count in Spanish from 1-20
v. Work collaboratively

Engagement

3. The class will be required to listen to answer questions based on the song. The song will be
played twice. The students will be asked to name some of the countries they heard in the song
which was played.
Exploration:
The teacher will play a CD track /read the numbers and names of the countries on the world
map from page 7 in the text, ¿Qué hay? 1 Libro del Alumno. The students will listen and
repeat the names as they locate each on the map based on the numbers heard.
Explanation
The teacher will ask the students to say what language is spoken in the countries highlighted.
The teacher will ask further questions about the importance of Spanish and its influence in the
world.
Elaboration
Students will look at the map in their textbook. They will read the names of each country
according to the order in which it is numbered. Students will write the Spanish-speaking
countries in their notebooks. Students will work in groups of two or three to do find the capital
of each Spanish-speaking countries. They will present their answers orally to the class.
Evaluation
Students will complete the following table with ten Spanish- speaking countries and their
capitals.

Cultural Note(i) The Spanish settled in Jamaica from 1494 until 1655. During this time they
gave names to places such as mountains, plains, rivers and towns. Many of the places still
have the names they were given during the Spanish colonial period.
6. (ii) Spanish is the official language in twenty-one countries. Twenty of these countries are in
the Caribbean region. Spanish is one of the official languages of the United Nations
Organization.

9. The students will be asked to name some of the letters they heard/saw in the video.
The class will be divided into 6 groups. Each group will be asked to repeat a particular
sequence of the letters of the alphabet-the first five, the next five, the last five et cetera.
Explanation
The students will be asked to say which letters of the Spanish alphabet make a particular
sound or what is equivalent of a particular letter of the English alphabet.
Elaboration
Students will take turns spelling their names when asked, ¿Cómo se escribe tu nombre?
Students will ask the question of each other.
Students will spell their names orally in Spanish.
Evaluation
1. The students will be put into groups of five. They will be given the names of five
persons. They will spell out the names using the letters of the Spanish alphabet.
They will be given a time limit of two minutes. The team with the most correct
answers wins.
2. Students will write out the letters of their name using the Spanish alphabet.
