2. MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE
Total 433.43 tons per day of municipal solid waste is being
generated in the State of Goa
Municipal areas - 218.1 tons per day
Panchayat areas - 215.33 tons per day
Seven municipalities have installed garbage treatment
plant out of which six have established landfill sites.
Garbage Treatment Plant at Sonsodo is operated by M/s
Fomento Green for Margao Municipal Council where the
unsegregated mixed waste is separated mechanically. The
recyclables are removed manually and the non recyclable
will be landfilled.
3. MOU with ACC wadi for disposal of plastic waste
Two Baling machines provided to CCP
2 sites identified (Kakoda & Karapur) for storage/
segregation/ baling of plastic waste collected
Highway cleaning drive was carried out for 3 days by
various Govt. Departments & Corporation.
Presently the collection of non biodegradable waste
along the National Highways is being carried out by
GSIDC
4. Ban on manufacturing, sale and use of the plastic
having thickness less than 40 microns and bags which
do not have the name of manufacturer, thickness and
registration number printed on them
Proposed MOU with JK Cement and Vasavdatta
Proposed baling machines for municipalities, NGO’s
etc.
5. BIO-MEDICAL WASTE
316 health care facilities obtained authorizations out of
which:
Bedded hospitals – 140 nos.
Non bedded hospitals (clinics) – 113 nos.
Veterinary hospitals – 63 nos.
Incinerator with air pollution control device – 1 no.
Autoclave for sterilization – 175 nos.
Microwave – 1 no.
Needle shredders – 316 nos.
Total 4950.90 Kg per day of bio-medical waste is being
generated in the State of Goa
6. GOA MEDICAL COLLEGE
The Goa Medical College is a 1,200 bedded hospital
generating about 600 Kgs of Bio-medical waste per day
The Bio-medical waste treatment facilities consists of :
Incinerator - capacity 60 Kgs/hr.
Plasma Pyrolysis plant - capacity 20 Kg/hr.
Ecodas system – Recently installed Bio Medical Waste
Treatment plant (Ecodas system) with treatment capacity of
100-130 kg per cycle. Approximately 1000 kg/day of bio
medical waste is treated in a Ecodas system.
10. Implementation of e-governance software XGN
developed by NIC Gujarat for Consent, authorization
management.
Proposed to establish facilitation centre's at Industrial
Estates at every taluka
Setting up of Central laboratory at Saligao, Bardez-
Goa. Land identified 4800 sq.mts of DSTE
11. Regional Office at Margao located at Old Collectorate
National Water Monitoring Programme – 50 locations
National Air Monitoring Programme – 15 stations
Categorization of Industries – Red, Orange, Green
Installation of Continuous Ambient Air Quality
Monitoring Stations to 17 Red category industries. 5
have already installed
12. Land admeasuring 2,20,000 sqmts has been identified at
Dharbandora for CHWTSDF. Environment Clearance has
been obtained for the same. The site admeasuring 1,10,000
sqmts has been handed over to Industrial Waste
Management Association for setting up of TSDF.
Incinerable hazardous waste is being disposed at MWML
facility, Taloja with permission of MPCB
Major landfillable waste generating unit in Cuncolim
Industrial Estate has installed its captive landfill facility
and other units generating ETP sludge is sent to cement
kilns for co-processing
13. As directed by the Board the hazardous waste stored at
Cuncolim Industrial Estate is being covered.
High Level Task Force Committee has directed PWD
to identify sites for disposal of construction debris
Proposal for construction of road by using slag and
plastic waste.
By 10th June, 94 schools will be provided with a set of 4
dustbins for collection of segregated waste
