INTRODUCTION
• Corporate sustainability - conjunction of two terms
sustainable development and corporate social
responsibility.
• Corporate sustainability reporting - also known as CSR
reporting and TBL reporting.
• The purpose of this paper is to analyzes the critical
issues related to the Sustainable Development and
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the Uranium
Corporation of India Ltd (UCIL)
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
• Sustainable development is a broad concept that
stabilizes the demand for economic growth with
environmental protection and social equity.
• Development that meets the needs of the present
without compromising the ability of the future
generations to meet their own needs.

Ministry of Mines Work towards the
development of
Sustainable
Development
Framework.
Actually the Hoda High-Level Committee
reviewed the National Mineral Policy in
2005 and recommended the
development of a Sustinable
Development Framework for Indian
mining sector. The Sustainable
Development framework comprises
principles, reporting iniatives and good
practice guidelines.

Basically , its coalition of

Aum. It initiates EITI Multi-Donor
Fund, Investors’ statement.
SMI (Sustainable Mining
Initiaive) India
To enhance mining
industry’s
contribution to the
larger goal of the
sustainable
development in the
country.
The Sustainable Mining Initiative is
aligned with the proposed Mines
and Minerals Development and
Regulation (MMDR) Act of 2011,
which advocates for the mining
industry to operate within a
Sustainable development
framework.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
• Research based on a case study approach and
is based on the study of UCIL (Uranium
Corporation of India Ltd).
• Secondary data is used and collected from the
capitaline database and company website.
• Techniques used is content analysis.
• Content analysis is a research tool used to
determine the presence of certain words or
concepts within the texts.
URANIUM CORPORATION OF INDIA LTD
• UCIL is a public sector Enterprise under the
Department of Atomic Energy.
• UCIL play a very significant role in India nuclear
power generation programme.
• UCIL has nine operations in Jharkhand and three in
other state of India.
• It has two processing plants at Jaduguda and
Turamdih and an upcoming milling project at
Tummalepalle in Andra Pradesh. KPM opencast
mining and milling project at Meghalaya is in the
pipeline.

RESULT AND FINDINGS
• The company is prohibited by the Department of
Atomic Energy’s orders.
• UCIL has been awarded with ISO Certification such
as ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001:2004, ISO 18001:2007.
• Various HRD (Human Resource Development)
initiatives in developing human resource.
• Lack of consciousness related to sustainability
reporting and knowledge of appropriate rules and
regulations are some of the factors which are set
behind the Uranium Corporation of India Ltd.
RESULT & FINDING
• Uranium Corporation of India Ltd maintained
a healthy amicable and harmonious relation
to all levels.
• Gratuity fund , death Benefit fund, Karamchari
Pariwarik Sahayata Yojana, sport council,
Welfare Fund Scheme etc. has been given to
the employee of the UCIL.
• UCIL maintain websites, which contains
information on their social and environmental
performance.
RESULT & FINDING
• UCIL started “The Talent Nurture Programme” for
free education to the children of the economically
backward people of the surrounding villages.
• Every year, the Safety Week Campaign is devised in
the UCIL in order to increase safety awareness
amongst the employees.
• The committee is created with the motive of
implementing relevant self-sustaining welfare
schemes and provision for adequate land.
CONCLUSION
• UCIL’s are not aware about the sustainability
reporting framework and they are presenting
information as per department of Atomic
Energy act 1956.
• UCIL Company needs to develop and foster
technological innovations to address
sustainability concerns facing the mining
industry and to achieve sustainable mine
development.
