To explore educational films through the lens of
discrimination
To explore various dimensions and aspects of
discrimination portrayed in educational films.
4. RATIONALE
The purpose of this paper was to analyse educational films through the len of
discrimination and to see how movies maintain or break the stereotypical portrayal of
discrimination. We saw that discrimination was evident in all the films both implicitly
and explicitly, which could later be categorized as language based discrimination, race
based discrimination, gender based discrimination ,class based discrimination
,discrimination done to differently abled, discrimination done by teachers, by peer, by
family, by siblings, discrimination among professions.
11. Conclusion
This study has broadened the horizon of understanding about
discrimination done by different agents of socialization in
educational films.
Educational films have the potential to elicit learners, teachers,
and teacher educators towards the different dimensions of
discrimination. It also has the potential to cajole them towards an
emerging culture of inclusion and empathy.
