Vmware is working on new technology, Thinstall Application Virtualization, which features an agentless architecture and wide platform and application support. There are no backend infrastructure requirements nor any compatibility issues between applications or multiple installed versions of applications. It will offer support for a wide variety of .NET and Java runtimes and you can even run multiple versions of the same browser on the same machine.
