Law 1 discusses the field of play and outlines some key rules. It states that only lines indicated in Law 1 can be marked on the field and that players cannot make unauthorized marks with their feet. It also notes that only one person can convey tactical instructions from the technical area at a time and must return to their position after. Fourth officials are expected to control the technical area in a preventative manner but inform the referee if serious misconduct occurs. Commercial advertising must be at least 1 meter from the field boundaries. Players can only take liquid refreshments on the touch line during stoppages.
