You might have heard or read about the Internet of Things on the net somewhere. If you’re clueless about
it, the Internet of Things, or IoT for short, involves interconnecting smart gadgets together using internet
connectivity with the purpose of collecting data and controlling these devices. Dharmendra Rama
Manufacturers take everyday gadgets and
inserted chips into them to allow them to
act as sensors, enabling them to act based
on commands and make them
communicate with each other through a
smart hub. A house outfitted with a local
cluster of such devices is called a smart
home, a building with all these devices
synced to each other is called a smart
building, and a city with such devices
working in concert is a smart city.

To better illustrate how IoT works, imagine your
home is a smart home. Let’s say you’re in the office
and you want to give your dog a treat. You can
activate a smart dog feeder, call your dog to it, and
allow its screen to display you at your office desk to
comfort your puppy. On your way home, you might
want to lower the thermostat so you ask either Alexa
or Google to do it for you before you come in so,
when arriving home, it’s already warm and toasty.
You can also check who came to your door while you
were at work by checking the feed on the camera
