They ……………….. (A2 work) together on the 27th of the Trade Center’s north tower
and as the smoke began (B2) to fill their offices last Tuesday morning, Ed,
……………….. (A3 stick) in his wheelchair told (B3) Abe to get out. Abe
……………….. (A4 have) plenty of time to do just that but he refused (B4) to
leave Ed’s side. Instead, Abe ……………….. (A5 tell) Ed’s nurse to go and that he
would stay (B5) and look after his friend.
They ……………….. (A6 call) their families, Abe dialling and holding up the receiver to
Ed’s ear. They each told (B6) their families they ……………….. (A7 be) ok. And
then the building fell (B7) . Abe and Ed ……………….. (A8 be) lost together that
morning but they taught (B8) all of us the meaning of friendship and selflessness.
