There are no weights
or percentages that
dictate how an
evaluator must
interpret pattern and
trend data to
determine a Student
Impact Rating for an
individual educator.
Analyzing 4 Measures
DDMs (& MCAS SGP where applicable)
4 Determinations
(L/M/H for each
measure)
Example Overall Rating for

If more than half of the
determinations point to
the same rating, this is
the rating

2014-2015 Measures
Grade 1 DDMs
– ELA: Reading Benchmark Assessments Fiction (Full
Year)
• Possibly explore Words Their Way Developmental
Spelling Inventory
– Mathematics: AMC #6 (Full Year)
Setting Parameters
One possible approach
List from lowest (3) to highest (20) to find median.
Median is 12. We could determine that +/-4 from
median is moderate growth at school level before
compiling all school results to determine district
parameters.
+/-6
Low: Less than 8
Moderate: 8-16
High: Greater than 16

Imagine that the list of
students to the left are all
the students in a 6th

class. Note that they are
sorted from lowest to
highest SGP.
The point where 50% of
students have a higher SGP
and 50% have a lower SGP
is the median.

Process
Reading Assessment DDMs: Building Reading Specialist and Assistant Principal will
meet in early June with grades 1-6. Sharon will have worked with Reading Specialist
group beforehand and will also attend meetings as she can. Sharon will work with K
teachers.
Math DDMs at grades K-2 and any 6th grade teacher using a math DDM: Heather will
meet in early June with the grade level teachers at each school.
SS DDMs at grade 3 (MA Map) and grade 6 (Ancient Civ): Sharon and/or APs will meet
in early June with the grade level teachers at each school.
Science at grade 6: Jean will check in with any teacher using a science DDM.
An R&D will be written - most likely for one day, to have the curriculum specialists and
representative teachers, take all of the schools results and then set district
parameters for low, moderate and high growth.
Determinations will be recorded at the fall goal setting meetings with evaluators.

MA DESE Quote
It is expected that districts are building their
knowledge and experience with DDMs.
DDMs will undergo both small and large
modifications from year to year. Changing
or modifying scoring procedures is part of
the continuous improvement of DDMs over
time.
