4. About Davetourje
Dave Tourjé has a lifetime of achievements as an artist, and
is now featured in the LA Aboriginal film by Daniel Lir and
Bayou Bennett.
He paints, draws, sculpts and even creates furniture.
Prompted by his 1998 purchase and renovation of the
Nelbert Chouinard house in South Pasadena, Tourjé began
researching the history of the Chouinard School of Art,
which later evolved into the California Institute of the Arts.
6. Chouinard Foundation
The Chouinard Foundation was founded in 1999 by Bob
Perine and Dave Tourje, after Tourje purchased the home of
Nelbert Chouinard - the founder of the original Chouinard
School of Art in 1921.
The Chouinard Foundation's purpose was to illuminate the
legacy of Chouinard and bring it to public consciousness,
whether by mounting major Museum shows, starting an art
school, partnering with the City of LA or presenting a
feature-length documentary film.
